Before the big reveal, any guesses as to who Hugh is?
———Kol throws back his head and laughs. It's not a nice laugh but a cruel one. One that upsets me further as he makes fun of Hugh.
"I'd love to see you try," he taunts him before easily snatching the stake out of Hugh's grasp and tossing it to the side, making Davina yelp with surprise.
Suddenly Kol has Hugh up against the wall by his throat, his feet dangling off the floor as he slowly chokes. Kol smirks and digs his fingers in further making Hugh's face turn red as he gasps for air.
"Kol STOP, let him go," I yell out, more confused than I've ever been but one thing I know for sure.
I love Hugh. I love him with all my heart.
I don't want Kol to kill him even if he's been lying to me for years. Even if he has used me to find my family.
I just want to know the truth. Does he even love me? Did he ever?
"Sister how stupid could you be?" Koly shakes his head in disappointment, dropping Hugh on the floor as I requested. "A HUNTER?"
"I didn't know," I whisper and resist the urge to run over to Hugh to make sure he's alright.
"Elijah and Nik are going to have a field day with this one," he spits out furiously although his anger is directed towards Hugh, not at me. "What on earth were you thinking?"
I stare at Hugh recovering on the floor with tears in my eyes. How could he have done this to me? How could he lie like this? Was hurting my family like this his plan all along?
"I love him," I whisper and close my eyes tightly as Koly takes a stunned step backwards. I don't want to see his reaction, I know he will disapprove.
"Heddy-bear..." Kol's voice sounds dismayed and I think he's most worried about my feelings at the moment. He can see Hugh's betrayal clearly. We all can.
Hugh stands up, glancing at the door but Kol corners him before he gets a chance to leave. He's shaking like a leaf but his face shows no terror. He's very brave. He's brandishing a new stake previously hidden inside his jacket but none of us are too worried about his earlier threats. I know Kol will protect Davina and I if it came down to it and the stake isn't white oak anyway.
"Heddy-bear?" Hugh recalls the text message he saw only minutes earlier with the same nickname. "God I was oblivious. You're Hedda Mikaelson aren't you 'Mairen'?"
At my shaky nod he throws the stake on the floor, frustration stopping him thinking straight.
"I LOVED you," he yells at me with tears in my eyes. "You HID this from me. You lied, you... you're a vampire."
All I can do is stare at him and shake my head at Kol who silently offers to 'deal with' the situation.
"No Mairen, this can't be right," Hugh remains in the corner looking me up and down, scrutinising me in the dim light. "You're not one of them, you can't be. I don't believe it, I gave you vervain."
I don't correct him and explain I never drank it. I allow the flow of tears to stream down my cheeks as the love of my life yells at me, feeling just as betrayed by all my lies as I do from his.
"You grow, I've seen you grow taller. That has to mean you're human right? You can't be one of them...?" he pleads with me desperately wishing for me to verify his hopeful questions. "Mairen please, tell me I've got this wrong, I love you so much honey. Tell me I'm not in love with a monster."
