I leave a note on my bedside table for Cami. It's an explanation with a slight apology. All I've said is Hugh and I are going on holiday for a few days together to Europe. I didn't even specify the country. She is bound to be angry so I'd rather ask for forgiveness later than permission I know she won't give.
It's only been a few days since my birthday and I've been so miserable the entire time. Hugh was understanding even though I had to leave out a lot of the supernatural details. I don't want to scare him.
To make me feel better, Hugh has booked us a trip to Monte Carlo after I messaged him constantly about it. I know I heard 'Lijah say Kol and Davina are there, I'm sure of it.
I'm also sure Kol will have better control over the Hollow than Daddy since he's been practising self-control for a thousand years. I'm sure we'll be safe with him and Davina.
I'm nervous checking in at the airport because my passport isn't official but the man I compelled to make it for me under my fake name Mairen Ford pulled through. Thank god for that.
We board our flight and I instantly fall asleep, snuggling into Hugh to get comfortable. Luckily I drunk tons of blood before I snuck out this morning so I'm not craving it or desperate to feed. That would be awful on a long haul flight. I don't want to be responsible for a blood bath.
We're flying into Nice, France before heading straight there. I can only hope they haven't left yet.
It's exhausting travelling but Hugh makes the whole ordeal good fun. He was so thoughtful and even packed my sketchbook to keep me occupied.
When we finally arrive, we check in at a pretty little hotel before heading to the bustling Casino Square to look around. I'm on edge and antsy, panicking about not being able to find them in time before they move on. Hugh holds my hand and keeps me company, suggesting luxurious restaurants to check out. If Kol and Davina aren't there, we can have a wonderful evening together anyway.
"This one has two Michelin stars," Hugh shows me his phone and a gorgeous restaurant pops up on the screen. It's overlooking the water and the perfect view is something anyone can admire.
"It looks like somewhere Kol would take Davina," I note and Hugh finds the directions immediately, steering me to the right place.
When we enter I scan around, looking everywhere for them. We check both floors, including the private dining areas. I even check the ladies bathrooms and Hugh checks the mens.
A short while later I'm left in tears. They're not here.
Refusing Hugh's offer for dinner here because I'm so upset, we stand outside staring around at all the people. I feel lost and hopeless.
"This was such a stupid idea," I kick a stone under my feet in frustration while tears spring to my eyes. "I just want to see my brother, why does it always have to be so difficult?"
Hugh pulls me in towards him and I'm quickly comforted in his warm loving arms.
"Mairen honey, we'll find them. We won't leave until we do," he promises running his hands up and down my back soothingly.
"I love you," I look up at him, meeting his gaze.
"I love you honey, more than you could ever imagine."
I close my eyes and he kisses me, his lips are warm and soft. Perfect. I run my hand through his hair before breaking the kiss and smile at him.
"Maybe I should ring him?" I suggest, wondering why it didn't occur to me before.
"Wonderful idea," Hugh praises and I pull up Koly's number on my phone.
It rings a few times before I get a text message.
