The evening had started with so much promise. The sun had just set, casting a warm glow over the city, and you and Kyra Cooney-Cross were at a friend's party, celebrating another milestone in your relationship—your engagement. You had been together for years, building a life filled with love, laughter, and dreams of a future together.

The party was lively, with music, laughter, and the clinking of glasses creating an atmosphere of joy. Kyra was mingling with friends, her laughter ringing out across the room. You watched her with a smile, feeling a surge of love and pride. She was the person you wanted to spend the rest of your life with.

But then, in the blink of an eye, everything changed. You were heading back to the room after getting a drink when you saw her—Kyra, the love of your life—kissing someone else. The world seemed to stop as you watched, your heart shattering into a million pieces. The kiss wasn't a brief, accidental brush of lips; it was passionate, intense, and deliberate. And it was happening right in front of you.

Your breath caught in your throat, a painful lump forming as you tried to process what you were seeing. The room seemed to blur around the edges, the sounds of the party fading into a distant hum. All you could focus on was Kyra and the stranger she was kissing.

When Kyra finally pulled away, she saw you standing there, your eyes wide with hurt and betrayal. Her expression shifted from surprise to guilt in an instant, but the damage was already done.

"Y/N, wait—" she started, but you couldn't hear her. Your world had just crumbled around you, and all you could do was turn and leave, the sound of her voice chasing you as you pushed through the crowd and out into the cool night air.

You didn't stop until you reached your apartment, your heart pounding and tears streaming down your face. You collapsed onto the couch, the reality of what had just happened crashing down on you.

Hours passed before Kyra finally arrived, her eyes red and filled with regret. She stepped hesitantly into the room, her voice barely above a whisper. "Y/N, please, can we talk?"

You looked at her, the pain in your chest making it hard to breathe. "What is there to talk about, Kyra? I saw you. You kissed someone else."

"It was a mistake," she pleaded, tears streaming down her face. "I didn't mean for it to happen. I was drunk, and it meant nothing."

"Nothing?" you repeated, your voice breaking. "It meant nothing to you, but it meant everything to me. We were supposed to get married, Kyra. We were supposed to spend the rest of our lives together."

Kyra reached out to you, but you stepped back, shaking your head. "I can't do this," you said, your voice barely above a whisper. "I can't marry someone who would hurt me like this."

"Please, Y/N, don't do this," she begged, her eyes filled with desperation. "I love you. I made a mistake, but I love you more than anything."

You took a deep breath, trying to steady yourself. "I love you too, Kyra, but this... this is too much. I can't just pretend it didn't happen. I can't trust you after this."

The silence that followed was heavy, filled with the weight of everything that had been lost. Kyra's sobs filled the room as you took off the engagement ring, placing it gently on the table between you.

"I'm calling off the engagement," you said, your voice breaking. "I need time to think, to heal. Maybe someday we can find a way back to each other, but right now, I can't do this."

With that, you turned and walked away, leaving Kyra standing alone in the room, her heart as broken as yours. The future you had planned together was gone, replaced by uncertainty and pain. And as you stepped out into the night, you couldn't help but wonder if you would ever be able to mend the pieces of your shattered heart.
