Tap....tap....tap
"Can you stop that?"
"I'm not doing anything." Ace replied while he tapped on his desk.
I sighed and put down my book in frustration. It had only been a day and a half since he moved in and he was already driving me up the wall. It didn't help that I couldn't leave the room either, Ace and Noah wouldn't let me go anywhere despite the fact that I was basically healed.
I started to get up but he immediately held out a hand to stop me.
"Don't you dare."
"Urgh." I flopped back down. "I'm so bored."
"Read a book."
"I can't concentrate with you tapping!"
"Well I can't concentrate without tapping so too bad."
"That's it, I'm leaving." I swung my legs off the bed and stood up. I paused while the room spun a little but it settled and I marched off, ignoring Ace's protests.
Walking was a little difficult with my ankle but I supported myself on the banister and managed to make it down the stairs having only fallen over twice. It's the small victories.
I was wearing one of Ace's t-shirts that I had stolen with some shorts and a pair of fluffy socks but it hadn't occurred to me to change and I was not about to go back because Ace would lock the door and not let me out again.
I wobbled into the common room. I spotted the boys but as I was walking over I noticed that a lot of the others in the common room were giving me odd looks. I ducked behind my hair a little, realising I hadn't washed my face or put any makeup on for a couple days.
I crept up behind where Noah was sitting, Felix saw me but I winked and put I finger to my lips. Then I pounced. Noah screamed at an impressive pitch and leapt forward like he'd been burned. It was the funniest thing I'd ever seen.
I clutched my stomach in a fit of laughter as I gasped for breath. Felix was giggling and even Carter chuckled a little.
I pointed at him in shock, "You laughed!"
"Yes?" He raised an eyebrow, "And?"
"Nothing." I said innocently but as soon as he looked away I fist pumped the air in silent victory.
"That wasn't funny," Noah humphed.
"Yes it was, why do you scream like that?"
"Shouldn't you be resting?"
"I'm fine and Ace is diving me crazy. I had to escape."
"He does have a tendency to be little overprotective."
I sighed and flumped down next to him. "You can say that again."
There was a moment of silence as we watched two boys having an arm wrestle across the common room.
"I was wondering," Noah started, "if you would come to a party with me."
I looked at him in surprise.
He blushed.
"Not like a party just an event? And you wouldn't really be going with me because all of us are going so really you'd be going with us."
"Okay." I said when the rambling stopped.
"It's fine if you don't want t- wait really?"
"Sure what kind of event is it?"
"It's a charity ball, Aces parents host it every year and we all go; Felix usually has girls falling at his feet for him to take them and Carter brings his sister so I thought I could take you?" He smiled sheepishly.
"I'd love that." I beamed back.
Just then a call went around the room.
"Gentlemen-" The speaker looked at me, "-and ladies! We are looking for anyone who wants to challenge the great and mighty arm wrestling champion of Pendle house!"
The arm of a muscular boy who I assume was the champion was held up to a chorus of cheers.
"Any brave challengers? No?" No one stepped forward.
That was my cue.
I stood up and thrust my fist in the air.
"I'll wrestle!"
A mixed response of cheers and gasps filled the room. As I was being herded to the center of the room I suddenly remembered I had fractured ribs and a concussion but it was too late to back out now.
I took my place at the table opposite the 'champion' and cracked my knuckles confidently.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Noah facepalm with a sigh.
I planted my elbow firmly on the table and locked hands with my competitor who, from the chants, I'm guessing was called Jack. The countdown started, I was doubting my ability to win. Then it began.
Jack immediately was over powering me, pushing me closer to the table, I resisted as hard as I could but I was clearly no match for his strength. However, what he had not accounted for was that I was fiercely competitive and stubborn as a mule.
I held my position a mere inch from the table until I felt him began to weaken. Gasps of shock filled the air as I steadily gained the lead. Finally, with a superhuman burst of strength I slammed his hand down on the table.
I was lifted out of my seat onto several boys shoulders. People were going crazy, screaming and chanting my name. Jack was still sitting there looking absolutely flabbergasted but I felt no remorse, too energised from the thrill of victory.
When the celebration was over and I had been officially crowned as the arm wrestle champion of Pendle house I limped back up the stairs, flopped into bed, and promptly fell asleep.
