Chapter 23 - It's Complicated

The next few days consisted of preparation for the internships, you were currently eating lunch with Jude and his friends for the days since you two were finally on good terms. You usually sat with Tokoyami and Sully for lunch, but today was different. Tomorrow was the day that the internships would start, so you were quite excited about that. Interning with Hawks is something you would've never imagined or even thought of until now, and it was thanks to Jude that you had gotten to do all of this.

Out of the kindness of his heart, he turned it down for you. And you greatly appreciated him for that.

You had walked with Jude to the vending machine since he offered to pay for the same things you had gotten on the first few days of school—a green tea and an apple.

You watched as he put the few coins he had stuffed in his pockets into the machine, deciding to spark a conversation for the time being. "What did you do over winter break?" you questioned, realizing you had never asked him that within the past few days.

"After the whole villain attack thing, I finally got to visit my dad. It was nice seeing him and all," he responded.

You smiled slightly, "What part of Japan does he work mostly in, again?"

Jude's POV: Winter Break Flashback

Jude waited outside of the airport with his duffel bag in hand, absolutely drained and exhausted not only from the flight but also from the stress and 'what ifs' of the villain invasion back at U.A.

He had these prominent eye bags beneath his eyes, which felt like they were getting heavier and heavier by the second. His blonde locks were also slightly messy from attempting to fall asleep on the plane. He tiredly scrolled through his phone, seeing a lot of the posts his friends and classmates were making about their own winter break trips and activities.

He noticed a notification from his dad at the top of the screen,

Dad: Where ya @, kid?!

Jude: The front of the airport where else would I be

Dad: Don't see ya. Look for my car!

Jude: I'm trying but u aren't anywhere in sight and why are u texting and driving at the same time?

Dad: Just focus on finding my car right now or else you'll be sleeping on the curb tonite, kid.

Jude hauled his eyes up from his phone and started glancing around to see if he could spot his father. His father finally noticed where he was and pulled over, rolling down the window, "There you are!" his father grinned from ear to ear, replicating the same smile Jude had.

His father's name was Ryuji, and his quirk was quite the opposite of Jude's, being 'lunar affinity'. His father wasn't a Pro-Hero, he didn't exactly have the desire to become one since his quirk only exactly allowed him to harness the power and energy of the moon, so instead he works for a space company to help control the tides of the ocean and other things that are dependent on the moon.

Jude and his father looked slightly similar but with different distinct features. Of course, their smile was almost exactly the same. Ryuji's hair was a deep black color, and his eyes were dark grey. He was lanky and dressed in business-casual clothes, and then there was Jude with his baggy jeans and baggy sweaters or shirts and constantly untied sneakers with headphones around his neck, mainly using them for some sort of 'decoration'—at least that's what Ryuji always thought, even though he was pretty much the same way as a teenager. To sum it up, Jude's overall look was basically just looking like a bum.
