Kat could feel herself slipping, whether it was her grasp on the constant mentality that had allowed her to get so far in Seattle, or whether it was the fact that everything around her was slowly splintering into fragments of glass that she couldn't step over without first bleeding.

It sounded dramatic (which was Kat's forte), but as she began to contemplate the permanence of herself as a resident of Seattle- Kat started to realise that she was slipping.

The number of people around her was slowly decreasing, gradually dissolving into an amount that would make Kat quickly rush onto an economy flight straight back to her crappy New York life.

Arizona was on a flight to New York, probably biting her nails down to the quick in anticipation. Andrew had attempted to kiss her, and tried to play it off with shitty apologies and a 'business as usual' attitude. Jo was becoming a fast friend, but she still swore the majority of her loyalty to Stephanie- who was quickly proving herself to be a difficult obstacle of rivalry in Kat's path.

That was it. All of the people that she knew in Seattle, summed up with just a few mere sentences. She hadn't devoted much of her time to getting to know new people, except when it was forced upon her, and since Arizona's departure to New York- Kat was beginning to realise that she didn't really have too many people in her corner.

And she wasn't exactly sure what to do about that...

Ever since Arizona's departure, Andrew had just become more insufferable, it seemed. Kat stood in the middle of the hallway, narrowing her eyes to focus on the complicated charts of her pediatric patients (Kat's personal hell of a speciality- she absolutely hated kids, or she just didn't know how to talk to them. Either way, Peds made her want to bolt in the other direction and give up her medical career. It was strange, how Kat and her sister were polar opposites). She couldn't even get through the first name and surname of her patients, before being immediately interrupted.

"Peds?" A voice asked her, and she didn't need formal identification to figure out who it belonged to. "Huh. You don't say."

Kat looked up from the screen, a confused look plastered over her face. On her best day, she didn't understand what Andrew was saying half of the time. On that particular day, he had clearly decided to be far more cryptic with his words than usual.

"Don't I?" Kat asked.

"I'm on Peds too," he explained, with a slight shrug. "With Stephanie, of course. They're pulling all of the available residents and interns in for this case." He peered over to see Kat's screen, and then nodded knowingly. "The conjoined twins case, right?"

Kat nodded slowly, looking quickly back down at the charts of her patients. Conjoined twins, needing separation for medical reasons. An extremely risky surgery, even when performed by the most skilled surgical team. "Looks like it'll be crowded in that OR."

"Are you hoping for a place inside the OR?"

"I'm just a resident, remember. And you're just an intern. The closest that you'll be getting to the action is sitting front row in the gallery."

"And maybe I'll wave to you," Andrew suggested, with an amused smile.

"You wouldn't dare. That is, if I even get a place in there."

"Your sister is the Arizona Robbins. A place in a Peds surgery is basically your birth right or whatever it's called. I wouldn't worry about securing a place in that OR."

"You forget that Dr Karev is in charge of this," Kat reminded him, knowingly. "So I'm sure that he doesn't give a fuck who my sister is, just that I actually have enough skill to belong in that OR with the rest of the surgical team." She shook her head. "And I'm not sure about that. He'll probably only select one resident for the teaching opportunity, and I really don't think I stand much of a chance."
