A gasp startled Erie out of her sleep. Ramuh had once again visited her in her dreams, piecing together the confusing images that had been running through her mind since she had absorbed his power.

A month had passed since life on Stonhyrr had abruptly changed with the departure of the former Lord Commander, and Erie had made it her mission to adjust to the new normal as quickly as possible.

Sleipnir Harbard was nothing like the old Lord Commander. He hardly ever spoke to her, if he did at all, he gave her small, insignificant orders. Erie had not taken up the quill since. It seemed to her that Harbard hardly spent any time in his chambers either. Whenever she ran errands for him in the castle, she reported to him in the throne room, under the watchful eye of King Barnabas, who listened to Erie's explanations about the supplies in the kitchen and other minor administrative matters, and she wondered more than once why King Barnabas had the leisure to listen to these comparatively unimportant matters.

Contrary to Benni's announcement, Erie had not yet attended any of the strategy meetings. She didn't know whether Benni had overestimated her influence on the king or whether there had simply been no strategy meetings. And although the Lord Commander rarely spent his time around her, Erie felt under constant surveillance. It was as if countless eyes were upon her, yet all her friends seemed to interact with her normally. The only moment of the day when she felt truly alone was after dinner, when she could retreat to her room.

Without Cid, and now that Benni was spending more time with the king, Erie had no opportunity to practice her swordsmanship. Only in the solitude of her own room did she allow herself to practice a few maneuvers and moves, albeit much less effectively than against a real opponent. At least she wouldn't get completely rusty.

Much had changed for Erie with the power of Ramuh running through her veins. Not only did he appear in her dreams and whisper knowledge to her, but all of her physical movements had improved. She felt stronger, more agile, and minor injuries from everyday life healed much faster. For the first two weeks Erie had been fascinated by this power, then she had begun to train to use it. She was sure that she could cast powerful magic with it, but she couldn't experiment a lot within the confines of her small room. She refrained from displaying it in public, reserving it for absolute emergencies - in case she had to flee Stonhyrr. Thus, she tried to appear untouchable, showing as little emotion as possible, diligently carrying out the Lord Commander's and the King's orders.

While she was still trying to make sense of what Ramuh had shown her last night, there was a knock at Erie's door. Sweaty, with disheveled hair, she got up and called out, "Just a moment!" as she put on her morning robe. Nevertheless, the door opened and Benedikta entered.

"Benni!" Erie exclaimed in surprise as she walked over to her friend to hug her, "I haven't seen you in so long. How are you?"

In fact, she hadn't had a single private word with Benedikta in the last month, which made the situation even more difficult for her. Erie was sure she couldn't keep up this charade for long and needed to persuade Benedikta to leave as soon as possible.
