By the time Xingqiu woke up with the weather fairly decent now, you were already gone beside him.

You, on the other hand, were out on a run, suddenly wanting to get some exercise after what happened last night. You rarely indulge in these types of physical activity if not for training.

The thought of not being able to do anything about yesterday's weather pissed you off. Once again, you weren't in control of something that happened and to compensate, you just wanted to keep moving-so you ran.

When you arrived back at the inn after an hour, your fiancé was already in the lobby, sipping his morning tea as he read his book, patiently waiting for you. He didn't know where you went exactly when he woke up to an empty bed, but he was sure you would still come back and didn't just ditch him-though the latter was very possible for you to do, considering how you were.

Neither of you spoke about last night during breakfast and the trip to Yilong Wharf, and you were mostly thankful for it. You weren't saying that you were open for the conversation-it was just that if he brought it up, you wouldn't mind chiming in once or twice.

He kept the subjects light, like how the weather was starting to feel like spring was coming and his opinions on the book he accidentally borrowed from you. Despite the seemingly "normal" morning, you couldn't help but feel like something was reeling inside you, perturbing. It was bothering you, like a buzzing in your ear that you couldn't quite figure out where it was coming from.

What the heck was happening?

When you reached the wharf, a certain white-haired familiar could be seen chatting with a merchant selling its wares on the side of the road, leaving you to groan in dismay.

"Are you kidding me?" Your face turns sour.

It was still fairly early-two hours before the usual lunchtime-and your day was already ruined. This time, not because of Xingqiu.

And as if on cue, she turns around, her face beaming with excitement when her eyes grew accustomed to the sight of you and your fiancé.

"Oh my Gods, I knew I was gonna find you guys here!" She squeals, almost prancing to pull you close and hug you. "I missed you, my beloved [Name]."

"Meiyin," You try to keep your tone light, but to no avail, there was still a tinge of bitterness that left your mouth, "What a surprise."

The said person composes herself after the hug, her vision drawn to your fiancé like a magnet, and smiles politely to him before greeting, "Hi, Xingqiu."

"No 'my dear Xingqiu' this time?" He teases her and she laughs.

You looked away and quietly scoffed.

Meiyin shrugs and sticks out her tongue, "I don't feel like addressing you as one right now."

"But may I ask as to what affairs you have here?" He continues to step towards her, meeting the ex-scholar halfway at the entrance.

"The Bìs have found out your affairs here, that's what." She crosses her arms, as if almost hesitant to speak with a subtle bitter tone. "And they came to an accord that I should tag along."

Xingqiu smiles, knowing how she stated "the Bìs" as a way to address her parents. "That should be no problem. My parents did tell me to save an extra seat in case of unforeseen circumstances."

"The standard Bì protocol, I respect that." Meiyin playfully rolls her eyes. "It's as if at every table, you save me a seat."

Ah, you almost forgot. Those two were childhood friends. Of course, they had their habits growing up together with their family's businesses being almost closely intertwined-they even have a name for this sort of situation.
