Me: I'm SOOO sorry.
I apologized to Scarlett and explained the current situation. A fiery Scarlett slammed the door in my face. Somehow a feeling of Deja vu encompasses me as if I had seen the exact same circumstance play out countless times.
I walk down to the ground floor and wait at tavern.
Me:(Maybe I should just leave??)
Just then she walked down and looked at me. Her furious face had now settled into a calm demeanor. It was almost as if she was a different person all together. Her eyes meet mine as I watch her walk towards me.
Scarlett: Heyy! Ready for tonight?
Me: Yeah...I've been really looking forward to it!
Scarlett: All right! I'll show you around since it's your first time here. First, let's go to the town center. There's a play that's held there every year for the festival, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
With that she grabs my hand and leads me out of the tavern, I follow her to the town center. My eyes fixed on the back of her head. She's saying something to me, probably explaining what's going on or pointing at something interesting she saw as we moved through town, but all that was lost is the noisy crowd and more importantly my mind was lost looking at her. Occasionally she turns back to look at me, making sure I'm still following her, or perhaps I gave a weird response as I'm not paying attention, but every time she looks my way, she smiles, and her smile makes me smile.
I don't know what it is. Perhaps for the first time since I've been awake it feels like I'm just interacting with someone, the way I'm supposed too. Don't get me wrong Mary takes great care of me and the King and his subordinates have been nothing but kind to me. But still.... It's all to formal and they see me as something fragile, like a sick man who need to be taken care of ...
But Scarlett, she treats me just like she treats anyone else. I'm not something that's fragile or the guy that has to learn all the ins and outs of this complex new world. No. With her I'm just the guy that's new to town and we're out to see the local festival. No unnecessary formalities, it's just raw, it's in the moment. It's human.... She makes me feel human.
And just like that before I even realize, we're already here.... Too soon, I was really enjoying being lost in my own head.
Scarlett: Look's like were early, they're still just prepping up the stage.
I look ahead and see a decorated stage Infront of me, a small crowd has gathered around it and people can be seen moving backstage.
Scarlett: The crowds only going to get bigger. Good thing we're early, we get front row seats.
She laughs and looks back at me.
Scarlett: Oh, wow Peter, you really did come early, how come? Couldn't wait to see me again??
She's teasing me isn't she, I know she is!!
Me: Yup
I answer blanky. Being blunt is the best way to deal with a situation like this. Can't tease me for being awkward if I' act like I'm too stupid to realize it!
Scarlett: Mmhmm, and why's that? I thought you were a bigshot from the government, here for official business. I thought you'd be super busy.
Me: So? Do you think I'd ditch you too?
Me? Busy? I've actually done nothing since I came here, but it's probably best not to tell her that.
Scarlett: No, but it wouldn't surprise me
Me: Why not? People ditch you often??
I may appear timid and shy on the outside, but I know how to tease back too!
Scarlett: No, people love me and flock to me like sheep to a Shepard.
Me: Really?
Scarlett: Yup, they just can't live without me. Even on my most free day, someone or the other is looking to hang out with me you know. If anything, I'm the one that ditches them.
She says in a sarcastic voice.
Me: Somehow, I find that very hard to believe
I respond back mimicking her sarcastic tone.
Scarlett: Just you wait until this party is in full motion, and you'll see how many people would DIIEEEE for my attention.
Me: Yeah I'll Wai-
Suddenly I felt someone tugging at my arm.
????: Peter!
