The door swings wide open, and on the other side, a long table with an array of food comes into vision. Three men are sitting around the table one older than the other two, to their side an old man stands along with a woman....it's Rachel. Behind them, two Guards Stand tall.
Despite it being just a brief glance, I could immediately tell who the King was.
Perhaps it was because he was the one seated in the centre, or maybe it was because he looks older than the others seated, or maybe it was because when the doors swung wide open everyone turned their head to look my way except the King, who was already staring at me dead in the eye.
His face held a soft and welcoming smile.
Mary: You are in the presence of the King and his two twin sons Sir Anthony to the right and Sir Mark to the left of his Majesty.
Mary moves closer and whispers
Mary: you should bow when meeting the King.
I do an awkward bow
King: Oh there's no need for such formality. Come take a seat young man.
Me: Yes!
I take a seat one space away from Sir Anthony. He's an actual prince!!!
Oh wow. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous, and my god what a comfortable chair, it's so soft that it eases you into the chair but at the same time it is firm enough to prevent myself from sinking into the chair. The cutlery is no less, cleaned to shine like a mirror with beautiful engravings on the stem. The food looks surreal too, I'd describe it if I could, but I have no Idea what I'm looking at. I can feel myself smiling.
The King motions his hand to his side to the man standing to the side.
King: This is Doctor Herbert, and his assistant Rachel. They are the ones who have treated you while you were unconscious.
Rachel smiles at me, the Doctor holds a neutral face.
King: Doctor please read us the report on this boy's health.
Dr. Herbert: Yes, my lord!
Rachel hands a piece of paper to the doctor and he looks at it as he continues to speak
Dr Herbert: According to our reports he has made a full recovery physically, although he seems to have lost all of his memories and does not even seem to remember his own name, his brain itself shows no sign of damage but the exact cause of this memory loss is unknown. Based on tests we have also confirmed that he is 20 years old.
King: You're 20? That's quite a surprise.
Me: Huh? Why is-
King: But, more importantly I want to say that you can rely on us. Your story is a tragic one, but you are welcome to stay here as long as you'd like.
Welcome to the Kingdom of Paradise!
Paradise, what a name!
The King's happy face shifts to a more serious one.
King: And as my first step to help you, I shall start by telling you everything we know about you-
Dr. Herbert moves and interrupts the King
Dr. Herbert: But, your Highness-
King: It's fine.
The King responds calmly, moving his eyes down to the table.
His face rises once again filled with new energy, and he starts to speak. His head moving smoothly, his eyes looking at one person then the next.
King: It's only fair that the boy gets to know the truth. I do not wish to start a new relationship on the foundation of a lie. We must treat each other the way we want to be treated.
He speaks with no aggression in his voice, and yet his presence is undeniable.
I could feel the mood of the room shift back into his favor!
Dr. Herbert backs down
Dr. Herbert: Yes, my Lord!
The King looks at me once again, the same composure still in his eyes.
The King: Now listen closely my boy...
