billie jolted awake with a gasp. she sat up, her breathing quickening and a sob emitted from her lips. "hey," hayley groaned, sitting up. "what's wrong?" she asked, wrapping an arm around billie. "ba-b-bad man!" billie wailed. "oh, honey, did you have a bad dream?" hayley frowned. "mmm, uh-huh," billie nodded. "mommy!" billie whined, crawling into hayley's lap. "shh, i got you, baby," hayley hummed, gently massaging billie's scalp. "oh, sweetheart..." she murmured as billie started coughing. "breathe, baby, breathe," she whispered. "look at those sad, innocent eyes," she cooed.

"you're just a little baby, huh?" she tilted her head, looking at the innocent expression on billie's face. billie nodded her head. "baby, you gotta calm down," hayley sighed. "i'm right here." she muttered, running her fingers through billing long, black hair. "ma-mama!" billie sobbed. "mama's here, baby" hayley said softly, laying billie down in her arms. she gently grabbed billie's hand, putting it on her chest as she took deep breaths. "in and out," she murmured. "very good," she smiled. "in, out," she whispered. "good girl," she uttered. "that's it, baby," she cooed.

she cradled billie in her arms, gently caressing her face. "you're safe." she muttered, rubbing her thumb across billie's rosy cheek. "kissy, peas, mommy!" billie pouted, pointing to her forehead. hayley hesitated for a moment before parting billie's bangs in the middle and pressing her lips to her exposed forehead. billie's lips formed into a big smile at hayley's action. "such a happy baby!" hayley purred, running her index finger up and down the bridge of billie's nose.

"go to sleep, sweet girl," she whispered. "mommy's not going anywhere." she hummed, laying back down. billie wriggled around to get comfortable. "ni-ni, mama." billie mumbled. "night-night, bear," hayley muttered, gently rubbing billie's back. she watched billie's eyes flutter shut. "sweet girl..." she breathed.

billie jumped around the room as she tried to regulate herself. "can you guys please get out?" she whined, feeling herself getting more and more overstimulated by the minute. "no, no, not you." she uttered, pointing to hayley. "c'mere, bil," hayley uttered, opening her arms. "how about we do some breathing and some distraction, yeah?" she cooed. billie sat down in hayley's lap and nodded. "i want you to take deep breaths," she said. "here, look! pick whatever you wanna do!" she smiled, handing billie her bag.

billie opened hayley's bag and pulled out the play-doh, building blocks, and a fidget toy, setting them on the table. she sat down on the floor and opened a can of play-doh. she took the play-doh out of the container and put it on the table. she rolled the play-doh into a snake and ripped it in half. "blocks!" she pouted as she continues ripping the snake in halves until she was left with small even slices. she grabbed the play-doh chunks and mashed them together. she put them back into the container, putting the lid on it.

hayley opened the small tins of blocks and slid them over to billie. "c-castle!" she cried. "shh, we can build a castle." hayley said softly, sitting down on the floor next to billie. she placed two cubes on the table and looked at billie for approval. billie picked up a rectangular block and placed it on top of hayley's blocks. the pair continued to alternate placing blocks. "no more," billie started. "i don't want it to fall." she uttered. "we made a good castle, huh?" hayley murmured, looking into billie's bright, blue eyes.

"y-yeah," billie stammered. "your eyes are so pretty." she whispered, taking in the color of hayley's eyes. "so are yours," hayley smiled. billie crawled into hayley's lap, wrapping her arms around her neck. "sweet girl." hayley muttered, wrapping her arms around billie. "thank you for letting me hug you and cuddle with you whenever i need it." billie hummed. "no need to thank me, sweetheart." hayley cooed. "i really appreciate it," billie smiled. "my old therapists would only give me short hugs." she frowned.
