"Emma,
Orientation is two and a half weeks away and you and Caden need to be on your way if you want to make it on time." my mom said as I slowly descended down the stairs to the kitchen
"mom if you loved me you wouldn't let your only daughter go cross country with a Neanderthal! I said as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes
"Oh honey don't be silly, just last week you were telling me home much you loved him.
"Yea but that was before we broke up." my voice breaking at the thought for him.
My mom never found out why me and Caden really broke up and that's why she is now forcing me to go cross country with him since we have been planning for months to go and she finally agreed to it just a week ago. And when I told her I didn't want to go anymore it was too late because I couldn't find a plane ticket to California in time for orientation and the other were just outrageously expensive!
"Emma, your just overreacting, you'll work out whatever little problem you had and everything will be fine again." she said as she served me my breakfast.
"Yea well not this time." I said while sticking my fork into the scrambled eggs.
It looked like she wanted to say something but was interrupted by a knock at the door.
"Come on in Caden, are you excited for this morning?" my dad's voice boomed through the hallway and into the kitchen
Yea, I'm meeting with some scouts to talk about my future as their starting quarterback" said Caden
Caden had been our schools starting quarterback as a freshman on the varsity team. And he got a full scholar ship to a school out in the west coast so that and I quote "stay together" (BALONY)
"Well good for you son" my dad said as he appeared in the kitchen with Caden following behind him.
God Caden was making it hard for me to stay away from him. Especially when he shows up to my house looking as hot as ever. I mean did he really have to wear the shirt I gave him for his birthday. That just so happened to complaint his hazel green eyes perfectly.
"Hey Emma, are you ready to go" Cadan said causing me to break out of my trance.
HUH?
"I said are you ready go, Come on I'll help you get your bags" he said as he walked over and sat down in the chair next to mine. I quickly averted my eyes from him and glanced down at my half eaten plate. Suddently i wasn't so hungry anymore.
I don't need your help, I'm just perfectly fine without your help" I. I couldn't look at him and pretend that everything was fine between us. ________________________________________________________________________________
Once I finished putting my last suitcase into the trunk of Caden's car I walked over to my parents to say our goodbyes.
"Emma, sweetie I am going to see you so much" My mom said as she wiped the tears forming at the rim of her eyes and gave me a hug
"Mom, your suffocating me" I crocked out as she tighten her griped on me.
"Annie, let Emma go she needs to be on her way. My dad said and I shot him a gradiutude smile. "Thanks Dad"
Reducely my mom let me go and i made my way to my dad.
"I'll miss you sweetheart, Have fun okay" He whispered into my ear as I hugged him. We departed and I walked over to Jason.
Take good care my by little girl" My dad said warningly to Caden trying to sound intimating but he failed miserably. My dad was the kind of guy who rarely got mad and you would always see him smiling
"Of course Sir"
i laughed at his respond but quickly tried to cover it up with a cough when my parents turned and looked at me funny.
Caden walked over to the other side of the car and opened my door for me. "Ladies first"
"Save it okay, I can open my own door." I said while trying to keep my eyes off his gorgeous smile and climbed into the car
His smile flatten a little, but he just as quickly recovered and closed my door and walked over to the other side to get in. It hurt so much to reject him but he deserved it because he hurt me.
"Emma, please look at me" He got inside the car and started the engine. He turned to face me and put a finger underneath my chin. Forcing me to look at him. My breath caught in my throat. I knew it was a mistake to look at him he looked more beautiful then when I last saw him. If that was even possible
"Emmy please talk to me" His voice coming out soft and velvety. His gorgeous brown hair sweeping into his eyes. I just want to reach over and sweep his hair to the side as I have done many times before but I restricted myself from doing so.
" I heard that you're going out with Jessica " I said trying for my voice to come out strong and powerful but failing miserly.
He stiffened at the mention of her name and let me go and turned to face straight froward. I cut in before he could even respond.
"Let's just get this stupid road trip over with and forget that we ever happened." I wave of anger washed over me at the thought of Caden and Jessica togther but i pushed those thoughs away. I didn't mave a right to be mad. We broke up already but that still didn't mean it didn't hurt me.
I saw hurt flash across his eyes for a brief moment but qiuckly masked his emotions and started driving out of my neighborhood. I wanted to believe that for a moment he still loved me but I knew that he didn't anymore. Although I small, tiny part of me still wished that he still cared about me.
The silence in the car was killing me so I turned on the radio. A pop song was playing and I started to hum along to the song but Caden reached over and changed the radio station to a hip-hop station.
"Caden change it back"
"Nope, it's my car so I get to choose" he said while smirking. It made my heart flutter. I had really missed him.
"I swear I will throw your ipod out the window if you don't change it back" I said while smiling evily at him. I grabbed his ipod form the dash board and started to open the window.
"you wouldn't dare"
"try me"
He quickly bend over and snatched it out of my hand before I could tighten my grip on it.
"you suck" I said as I stuck my tongue at him like a child
"I'm pretty sure that's what you do" he said while smirking at me
"Eww! Gross!!!" I said and smacked his arm.
He was always able to make me smile even if I was mad at him. And eventually at the end i would end up forgive him. But this time it was different. I couldn't forgive him but if he kept this up i don't know how long it'll last.
This was going to be a long two and a half weeks from New York to California :(
