I looked down and started to fumble with my fingers. I knew that eventually we would be having this conversation. I just didn’t expect for it to happen now!
“Emma please say something you’re killing me” he said in pleading tone
I tried to swallow the lump that was forming in back of my throat and turned to look at him. “Caden I don’t have an answer to that question just yet”
“Okay how about this, we don’t have to get back together, but how about you just give me one opportunity to prove to you how much I love you”
He said he loved me! I could feel my heart beat accelerate as he said those precious 3 words.
“Just one opportunity” The moment I said those words his face lit up.
He suddenly reached over and grabbed my hand and took it into his while he kept the other one on the steering wheel. I tried to ignore to feeling of warmth I felt when he touched me.

“Okay how about this, you have to tell me two truths and one lie and I have to figure out which one is the lie”
“Okay you go first then”
Currently Caden and I were trying to figure out a way to distract ourselves before dying from boredom. All we could see was miles and miles stretched out in front of us. And I was starting to get car sick
“Ummm” I tried to rack my brain for something that he didn’t know yet.
“I once threw my phone in the garbage disposable because I hated my phone and told my parents it was an accident”
“Okay second one” he said while laughed
“I was the one who put the gum in Meghan’s hair in third grade”
“Wait that was you”
“Maybe” I said while smiling
"you do know that she had to cut her hair so short she rocked a bob
for about a year until her hair grew out again"
"yea I know"
I hated Meghan and the feeling was mutual. She has always had it out for me. In third grade me and her were paired up together and our job was to feed the class fish. She thought that the fish bowl was dirty so she emptied out the water and used sink water to refill the bowl. And as you might have guessed she ended up killing the fish.
She totally blamed the whole thing on me and I kept on getting teased for it for years. So I thought that the best way to get even was to stick my piece of gum in her long blond curly hair. She loved her hair so you could have imagined her face when the teacher told her she'll have to cut her hair
After that she has always tries to one up me. She even tries to hook up with Caden! After she found out I had a crush on him
"okay umm, third one”
"Oh I know I have never forged my parents signature"
"okay that’s a total lie"
"yea it is" I said grinning like fool
"your turn"
Caden turned to look at me mischievously
"so first lie, when I went to Cancun over spring break and I got hungover” he said smiling sheepishly
“I can defiantly see you doing that, so next one”
“I have never tipped anyone’s house”
“Oh really what about Nate’s house”
“What about his house” he said all innocent
“Okay sure, next one” I said obviously knowing he was lying. He and Nate loved to to prank each other.
“Okay let me see; I once forgot my password to my phone and ended up blocking it” He said
“Let me guess, you’re the one who tipped Nate’s house” I said
“Yea, his face was priceless”
“Sure”
“Caden, how far are we from California?”
“Too far”
“Ugh” I was starting to cramp up from being in the car. I tried to stretch as much as I could when suddenly a phone started ringing. I dug into the pocket of my jean put found nothing. I had a tendency to lose/drop my phone a lot. I franticly tried to find search for my phone.
“Where the hell did it go” I said frustrated. It kept on ringing!
Caden glanced over at me and said “check underneath the seats”
I took off my seatbelt and patted the floor until I found my phone.
“Found it” I screamed
“well answer it” He said sarcastically
I saw Scarlett’s name flash across the screen
“hey”
“Hey Em, do you know when you’re getting to California?”
“umm in like 2 weeks why?”
“Cause I’m here, and all the guys are so fricking hot” she giggled into the phone
I could hear a faint hey in the background and I couldn’t help but laugh
“Was that Nate?”
“Yea, but it’s not like I can hear him complain about the girls” she grumbled the last part.
Scarlett and Nate decided to go on an airplane so that they could arrive early and explore California before orientation which i am starting to see as a great idea. I so sick of driving and it's only been two days!
“Anyways, Em I miss you, how is it with Caden?”
I could tell Caden was trying to listen in on the call, even though he was pretending not to.
“It’s bearable”
“Oh, well that sucks, anyway me and Nate are heading to the beach, text you later”
“k bye”
Again in the background I heard a faint bye from Nate before I ended the call.
Caden smirked and turned towards me
“What’s bearable?”
“Oh you know cramps."
