(A/N)
Been a pretty insane few months
Got to spotlight for Hadestown and got sick right before opening night, then had a pretty chaotic birthday where I kept crying every time I was alone because I was so stressed
And now I'm working footloose and getting paid so I can put that money right back into a trip to a theater festival in Atlanta. But I'm still so proud of myself for making it this far in my life.

Strangers - Mt. Joy

The subway station wasn't as crowded as (Y/N) expected it to be. Though he thanked whatever deity had made it so empty; he couldn't stand the idea of wading through a loud, jostling, crowd just to make it to a cramped train car.

Leon had walked through the turnstiles with (Y/N), figuratively holding the boy's hand in whatever manner he could. The more time (Y/N) spent with Leon, the more he got the impression that he related to (Y/N) in some emotional way. An air of grief clung to the man in the same way (Y/N) imagined his own grief followed him.

Standing on the platform, (Y/N) watched as the train pulled in, slowing to a stop. Leon, his hands placed on his hips, smiled at (Y/N) when he looked back for comfort.

"I can't promise that you'll have a fantastic day, or that it's going to be easy, being around strangers all day, but I can say that you're stronger than you think."
Shifting on his feet, Leon pulled a sticky note from his jacket, handing it to (Y/N).

Kanji scribbled on the bright pink paper read the name of a different station. Leon elaborated on the paper when (Y/N) looked up at him with a quizzical expression.

"It's your stop."

"Oh." (Y/N) felt like he was breathing in a vacuum, his chest suddenly heavy with anxiety. He looked to Leon. His expression must've betrayed how out of his element he felt, as Leon tried to give him a comforting smile and a pat on the shoulder.

"You're gonna do great, kid. I believe in you. We all do."

They all believe in me. They think I can do this.
(Y/N) kept his eyes on the ground as Leon huffed a short laugh.

"I've gotta get back to the cafe and you've got a train to catch. I'll see you later, bud."

That aching weight in (Y/N)'s chest grew heavier as he watched Leon walk away. Feeling like a castaway watching his life raft float off into the sea, (Y/N) turned stiffly, still clutching the sticky note in his hands, and kept his head low as he walked to the doors of the subway. They hissed when they slid open, (Y/N) jumping back when a barrage of people filed out. Trying to make himself as small as possible, (Y/N) did his best to walk up the stream of people, slipping inside and taking a seat in an empty row. He kept his head down when he saw the blue glow of a spector amble past.
