Jack's apartment was filthy as fuck.
There was dirty clothes everywhere, dishes left in the sick. Old food packaging everywhere.
"Jesus you are disgusting!" Em shouted as he and his husband walked in the apartment.
"Sorry.." Jack felt a little embarrassed. "The week before our wedding, I was so stressed that I just made a mess and let myself rot."
"Good thing you married me." Em said to Jack, he plopped the luggage down. "I'm a great cleaner."
To Jack's surprise, Emerson diligently cleaned up the apartment. Em had always joked he was a hard worker but it turned out he actually was. It made Jack feel bad, especially after essentially raping him yesterday.
"Oh wow, Em.....I didn't know you-"
"Don't mention it." Emerson smiled, the black lipstick and the feminine goth clothing still looking rather odd on him. "I told you I'd make a great wife didn't I?"
Jack watched Emerson move swiftly around the apartment, collecting dirty laundry into a hamper and stacking dishes in the sink. He marveled at how effortlessly Emerson transformed chaos into order.
"You really didn't have to do all this," Jack said, his voice tinged with guilt. "I should be the one cleaning up."
Emerson glanced up from where he was scrubbing a particularly stubborn stain on the counter. "I know, but sometimes we need a little help. Plus, I can't stand messes. It drives me crazy."
Jack sat down heavily on the couch, running a hand through his disheveled hair. "I just... I don't know how you do it. How you manage to stay so... put together."
Emerson's eyes softened as he rinsed the cloth and set it aside. He walked over and sat beside Jack, taking his hand. "It's not about being perfect. We all have our moments when things fall apart. But we pick ourselves up and keep going. That's what marriage is about, isn't it? Being there for each other, through the good and the bad."
Jack squeezed Emerson's hand, feeling a warmth spread through his chest. "I really don't deserve you, Em."
Emerson leaned in and kissed Jack's cheek, leaving a faint smudge of black lipstick. "Yes, you do. We deserve each other."
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, then Emerson stood up, brushing off his skirt. "Now, let's tackle these dishes. Together."
Jack nodded, feeling a rewed sense of determination. "Together."
For a brief moment, it felt that maybe this idea could actually work out for each other.
As Emerson washed and Jack dried, it seemed that they were working as a team efficiently. This made them both wonder about their feelings for each other.
Once finished, they sat down to watch TV. Emerson not feeling as perverted and Jack not feeling as angry decided to watch a romantic movie together.
But.
This illusion was short lived.
Within 30 minutes of the movie, where for some reason the female lead was crying to her friend about her feelings to some random dude. Jack started to feel a bit resentful.
Emerson actually started getting depressed, he typically liked romance movies but this one was making him depressed despite nothing in the movie being depressing at all.
"Do....do you ever think......." Jack started to sigh.
Emerson held a pillow infront of his stomach. "You feel pathetic?"
"How'd you know?"
"Because I feel the same way." Emerson continued. "You know, maybe if we just waited out another year maybe we......we........"
"Could have a girlfriend?" Jack finished for him.
"It was just a thought." Emerson looked down. Despite being married to his friend, he just continued to feel lonely.
"Hey, cmon-" Jack now taking on the role of being the assuring one. "We did this because the women we dated were shit. Let's not forget that."
The movie continued to play and it had a great ending which made Emerson teat up a little. Eventually the movie closed and Jack shut the TV off.
Emerson still looked sad, feeling bad for him Jack asked him. "Do you still feel lonely?"
"Yes." He silently admitted.
"Me too." Jack sighed. "We should be heading to bed."
"Are we going to fuck again?" Emerson asked, judging from his tone, Jack believed that Em was hoping for a no.
"No, not tonight. I'm too tired."
There was only one, full sized mattress. Being married they both agreed to share it. Although unlike the hotel, it felt a little more awkward because they were rubbing on each other.
Completely Disregarding the fact they fucked each other just yesterday.
"Can you like......try to hold me?" Em awkwardly asked. Jack felt a little stupid but he did understand he was feeling very lonely.
"Fine, but don't expect me to be good at it." He replied.
"Just try the best you can so I don't commit suicide."
"You and me pal." Jack wrapped his arms around Em. Within seconds they were already quietly sobbing.
Both of them hoped that one day they'll get past this.
Maybe one day.
They'll be happy, in their new life.
