them defending each other - Foord19
Caitlin and Katie were a few weeks into dating, they had hooked up once on their trip to Ibiza then realised that they could actually be something more, they tried dating whilst in Ibiza and then continued when they got back to London. They had decided the keep it a secrete from most people due to the short time that they broken up with their previous partners and then started something new with each other. They told Jordan because she was their closest friend and she may or may not have walked in on them once which had to lead to the pair telling their friend. But besides Jordan they hadn't told anyone.
Now they were both back in their national countries practicing for the World Cup that was yet to come. Caitlin had gone back to Australia where the World Cup was being hosted and the first game would be against Ireland who Katie played for.
Caitlin had arrived in Sydney very excited to see her two best friends, Alan Kennedy and Mackenzie Arnold, again and to spend some time with people from her country. As well, Katie and Caitlin had decided if it felt right that they could start telling people. So when Caitlin did finally make it into camp and was reunited with all her friends, the excitement to tell them really came to life.
When they were all given the okay to go up to their rooms one day after training, Caitlin, Alana and Mackenzie were all gathered in Macca's room just catching up on everything that has happened.
"Hey, so I have something to tell you guys." Caitlin said, slightly nervous but she didn't know why, they were her best friends and would support her no matter what.
They both nodded indicating for Caitlin to continue.
"So you guys know Katie McCabe obviously." Caitlin dragged on.
"Uh yeah Cait, not only is she the captain of Ireland and we're two weeks away from playing her team, but also because of the raunchy photos you posted of the two of you on your little trip." Alana said, teasing Caitlin.
Caitlin laughed awkwardly. "Yeah well about that," She paused. "We're um going out. Katie and I, we're dating."
The pair sat there for a few moments processing the information, then looked at each other trying to figure out how they were going to go about this.
"You guys have nothing to say?" Caitlin asked.
"Is she not dating the other Irish girl?" Macca asked.
"No they broke up about a month and a bit ago." Caitlin replied.
"That's a short amount of time between ending a relationship and starting one Cait." Alana chimed in.
"Yeah don't you think that she could just be using you?"
"I would be careful if I were you Cait, you don't want to end up being hurt."
Caitlin took a few seconds to process what they were saying. She couldn't believe that they weren't excited for her like she expected.
She stood up then spoke. "First of all, Katie would never use me, you guys don't know her, you don't know what happened in her last relationship but it broke her and I was there for her, as a friend. Then we went away, still as friends, and something happened between us and since then neither of us have been happier than what we are together. I don't expect either of you to understand that but you could at least be happy for me." She spoke accusingly, then left the room to go to her own.
All Caitlin wanted to do was to talk to Katie about what happened, but given the circumstances she decided not to and just let it pass.
When Katie arrived in Ireland camp, she was nervous at first because she hadn't seen Ruesha since the breakup and wasn't sure how everything was going to play out. Although when she did arrive she spent majority of the time talking to Denise O'Sullivan and Grace Moloney.
"What's got you so happy recently Katie?" Denise asked whilst they were walking back to the change rooms.
"Can you keep a secret?" Katie asked excitedly.
"Yes of course."
"I have a new girlfriend." Katie whispered excitedly.
"Katie..." Denise said in a worried tone.
"I know, I know. It's very quick since ending things with Rue, but you know better than anyone that that relationship should have ended ages ago."
"If you're happy Katie, then I'm happy for you, and I trust you'll tell Ruesha."
Katie sighed. "Yeah I will, just don't know how just yet."
"Alright, well I'm here to help if you need it."
"Thanks."
"Anyways, who's the lucky girl?" Denise asked, trying to get the excitement back.
"Caitlin Foord." Katie smiled.
"I should have guessed, the Ibiza photos now make a lot of sense." The two girls laughed and Katie filled her friend in on what happened on the trip.
Alana and Macca had approached Caitlin the day after their little argument, apologising for what they said and showed that they would support her through anything and if Katie made their best friend happy then they were happy for her too and couldn't wait to meet her in the setting of them being together. When the Irish team made it to Australia, Katie and Caitlin didn't have anytime to meet up because their schedules were jam packed and it probably wouldn't be smart meeting up with the opposition a few days before the opening game.
As well, Katie may have left it slightly late to actually tell Ruesha about her relationship with Caitlin but knew she had to do it before their game against Australia. It was a day before the match and everyone had just finished dinner. Ruesha had successfully ignored the captain majority of the camp but couldn't keep that up as Katie had cornered her when she was putting her dinner plate away.
"Can we talk quickly?" Katie asked.
"Can we not." Ruesha replied quickly and tried to make a break for it but Katie stepped in the way.
"It wasn't really a question Ruesha, we need to talk."
Ruesha groaned, "fine, let's go." Ruesha said and led them to a sitting area that no one would come into.
They both sat down on different couches and Katie cleared her throat.
"Um so I just wanted to tell you before the game tomorrow that me and Caitlin are going out. I know the timing is really short but I promise you nothing happened when we were together and she had nothing to do with the idea of me breaking up with you."
Ruesha sat stunned for a few seconds then got up and left without saying a word. Well that could have gone better. Katie thought to herself and sighed.
During the match, Matilda's vs Ireland, Ruesha firstly snubbed Caitlin of a handshake in the line-up, then would not leave her alone during the whole match and then after the whistle had blown to consolidate Australia's win in the opening game, Ruesha tried to start a fight with Caitlin, luckily Denise saw and stepped in quickly. Katie hadn't actually seen any of it go down but was caught up to speed by Denise when she entered the change rooms. Katie addressed the whole team when she found out and basically told the whole room to stop letting their emotions get the best of them on the field and just do what they were hired to do which is to play football. Ruesha had scoffed and rolled her eyes throughout Katie's speech, which she chose to ignore.
Later that night, Katie had called Caitlin to apologise on behalf of her ex, they had decided to meet up two days after because both teams had the day off.
