As I descend the flight of stairs with Ezra and Petra, the air seems tense with a twinge of mystery in it. The hall is lit up and a few of the special operations squad are here, and Petra runs off to where Eld beckons her. Ezra turns towards me with a serious expression.
"There's someone outside, waiting for you. He claims to be your nephew."
My nephew? That's strange. I certainly had no nephew, even in my previous life. Is there someone that desperate to meet me? Even so, I'll play along just for fueling my curiosity. "Bring him in then."
The doors are opened and my eyes widen in pure shock. My sunglasses drop to my nose upon seeing the familiar ravenette boy, covered in bruises and scars. Moreover, he's in his dark blue uniform. He seems to be exhausted and injured and when our eyes meet, his dark ones show tiredness, shock and.. relief? I can't believe this. I go closer to him.
"Megumi..?"
"Gojo...I" he starts but he doesn't finish his sentence. I scan the area behind me. With the Special Operations squad, Eren, Captain shortman nearby and Ezra watching, I must play my role for now. I have to talk to Megumi, privately.
I force the goofiest smile I can muster right now. "Ohh hey Megumi. Got into another fight again? How ruined you are, kid!" I grab his hand and lead him towards the outside. I turn my head towards the squad mumbling an excuse such as, "Gotta teach this boy a lesson you know.. kids these days." Hopefully they buy my excuse. Their skeptical faces don't go unnoticed by me but I can't afford to convince them. As long as they don't retaliate, Megumi's my top priority right now.
We come outside and when I steer clear of any possible eavesdroppers, I turn to Megumi. The poor kid. I have alot of questions for him right now but I have to be careful. With how it was previously, this could be an imposter too.
"Are you alright, Megumi?" I carefully choose my words to express my concern to the boy. To my surprise, he lets out a wry chuckle.
"To see you all serious, Sensei. I'd never have imagined. What happened here that turned you into this?" I scoff. He is right afterall. I have turned off my playful side apart from my banter with Ezra or small talk with Eren. But honestly, ever since I've been here, survival and responsibility weigh heavily on my shoulder. Like an invisible curse on a mere human.
