Cas disappeared and the brothers drove you back to the motel in silence. Dean's grip on the steering wheel making his knuckles turn white while Sam eyed him in concern. Now and then the younger brother would clear his throat, trying to break through the tension, but there was no point. Neither of you were going to talk about it. You weren't going to live in some creepy underground tunnel or whatever and Dean was never going to be okay with you on your own. You were barely younger than Sam and you didn't know why he cared so much, but to be honest, you couldn't give a crap.
You knew there was another hunt only a state over and you were determined to take this one solo. It was most likely a werewolf attack and you could use for some beheadings. You needed the win after that mess of a ghoul trip.
"You sure you don't wanna come with us?" Sam asked as Dean parked next to your white jeep wrangler.
"It's not you or Baby," You smirked and didn't notice the smile that passed Dean's lips, "It's not even your stubborn ass brother, it's-"
"Hey!" Dean whined in protest while you and Sam rolled your eyes.
"It's just that I've been by myself for years and I don't know work well with others."
"If you ever change your mind, we're in Lebanon, Kansas." Sam told you with a slightly sad smile.
"Thanks Sam." You smiled back and opened the door.
"Stay safe." Dean mumbled, but you caught it.
"You too, Winchester."
With that you shut the door and turned to your car. You unloaded your weapons bag, took a hot shower, and slept off the hunt. You'd be up in a few hours to drive to the next one, but for now you'd enjoy the small break in between.
~Small Time Skip~
Waking up was never your strong suit, no matter how much sleep you had gotten the night before. Trudging to the small kitchen provided by the motel, you put on some coffee and went to the bathroom. Pouring your cup, you thought back to the night before. Did he say Kansas? That's where the werewolves are. Well, guess if you need back up, you know who to call.
After checking out and heading to Kansas, you arrived at a motel in Wichita. It wasn't the best motel you've ever stayed in, but it wasn't nearly as bad as your used to. With a small shrug, you pulled out the police files you got from the station on your way. You'd be heading to the morgue later, but you wanted to familiarize yourself with the case first. Also, you were starving, so you went to a nearby diner to do the research. After ordering a burger, fries, and a milkshake, you read about how five people had their hearts ripped out. You assumed pack, because it was all in a few weeks and usually werewolves are more discreet when there's just one. When in packs they sometimes think that they're untouchable, too many of them for a couple of hunters to take down.
Skimming over the files you recognized a name, Kenneth Pugh. Kenny was a hunter who you met up with for a vampire's nest. Rufus suggested Kenny to you when you were just off a hunt nearby and Rufus was states away. Kenny was a solid hunter and you even considered him a friend. You knew Rufus would never partner you with an inexperienced hunter, but Kenny came to impress. And now this pack killed him. So, rightfully, you were gonna kill this pack.
No matter what.
You went to the morgue, looked into some local families, and found out that the Dover family owned a farm off the town, along with some abandoned buildings in the area.
Felt too easy, but you weren't going to let someone else die because you decided to second guess it.
You armed yourself with your pistol, this time loaded with silver bullets, a silver knife holstered on your thigh, and a smaller back up gun holstered on your other thigh. You moved swiftly through the corridors in the building, smelling copper, the clear sign of heavy amounts of blood. Wincing from the smell, you hoped it covered your scent, and came upon a room with a small girl handcuffed to a pole. From the police reports you read, she had gone missing six days ago, assumed dead. This town tended to lose hope when someone went missing because they hadn't had the best of luck when it came to finding them alive.
The room was eerily quiet, except for the girls shaky breathing, but you knew they wouldn't leave her here without at least one on guard. You needed to get her out quickly, there was claw marks visible on her cheek and arms, making you angrier by the second. You approached her stealthily on the balls of your feet, not making a sound. Even she didn't notice you until you were in front of her.
"Who-who are you?" She asked, fresh tears welling in her eyes.
She's clearly asked strangers this before while being in this position, and it was never an answer she wanted to hear.
"My name's Y/n." You whispered, "I'm gonna get you out of here."
Without saying anything she widened her eyes and pulled on the cuffs, looking past you. Without missing a beat, you spun around, kept yourself knelt down, and shot them three times. The werewolf fell to the ground and you turned back to the girl, hastily picking the lock on the cuffs and picking her up. She clung to your neck and you kept your gun up, ready for another surprise.
The gun shots were clearly heard because you were soon surround by three wolves.
"Looks like spiders caught a fly." One sneered and you carefully set the girl down next to you, much to her scared protest.
"Let us walk out of here."
"Not gonna happen," The second one laughed, "If you weren't a hunter I'd keep your pretty ass as a mate."
"Okay, then we do this the hard way." You smirked.
They tried to jump you, but you shot one first, making them fall to the ground. The other one went for the girl while the third one knocked the gun out of your hand. What the one didn't know is while you set her down, you gave her the gun, loaded. She shot the wolf in the arm while you swung around with your knife, stabbing the other in the heart. The last wolf was taken back by the pain but was soon up again. You grabbed your pistol off the ground and unloaded it into him as he was less than two feet from the kid. The power blew him backwards, forcing him to fall on his back.
"What's your name?" You asked when you scooped her up and took your weapons, holstering them.
"Jenny." She sniffed, shaking.
"Hey, Jenny, I'm gonna take you back to your mommy, okay?" You smiled, blood smeared across your face, but she didn't seem to notice.
"Okay." She nodded, still shaken, but with a small smile.
A hopeful smile.
You ran through the building and out to your car. You weren't taking any more chances with more wolves; you'd come back for them. After she told you what street she lived on, you drove down it until she pointed out her house. It was around midnight, so you walked her up to the door and knocked.
"Oh my god, Jenny!" The mom cried out at the sight of her daughter who held your hand.
She released you and ran into her mom's arms, making you smile. You turned around to leave them when she called out to you.
"Y/n!" Jenny shouted, running to you and hugging your leg, "Thank you."
"I'm sorry about everything, Jenny, but I promise they'll never hurt you again. Okay?" You smiled at her, pushing some hair that fell in her face back, as you crouched down to her level.
"You're a hero." She beamed and you could almost cry.
"Thank you for saving my daughter." The mom walked over, and you looked up, standing straight.
"I'm just glad she's safe." You nodded and they soon turned around, walking back into their house.
You needed to finish the job that you knew had only began.
Going back to the building, you cleaned it out, burning the bodies. There was five more wolves and they were no easy challenge. You got your fair share of scratches and a bruised neck. Your side was cut deep, the scratch prominent, and you knew you'd be sewing it up in the motel that night. But watching the eight or so wolves burn, knowing they couldn't hurt anyone else like Jenny, made it all worth it.
