Natasha walked into the gym, being careful not to interrupt the girl speaking. She had been here for a week, but she was still trying to find her way around. People knew her name, but she didn't know theirs.
She quietly walked over to sit next to a boy wearing a white and black jacket, and he had a brace on his knee. She squeezed in between him and a football player. The guy with a brace glanced at her, and she gave him a quick smile.
"What's happening?" Nat whispered.
"Jessica Davis, the girl talking, is giving a speech about how we have to listen to our classmates' stories," he answered. "Especially if they're survivors."
"Survivors," she repeated. "You mean of like sexual assault and abuse?"
He nodded and turned his head back to Jessica Davis. Nat looked down, before doing the same. She knew about the history of the school, yet her gut still told her to come to this one. Now, she knows why. Nat looked up to see her father, Nick, and his partner Hank walk through the door, and she sighed. She watched them show their badges to the authoritative figure there, and she rolled her eyes, turning her attention back to Jessica.
"Let them know that you're there to listen," Jessica spoke. "It's time for you to know your survivors in your life. To hear their stories and to know their voice matters." Jessica paused looking around, before taking a breath. "My name is Jessica Davis, and I'm a survivor."
