(Flashback Continues)
My uncle looked at us narrowing his eyes and said,"It's 7.25 p.m already., now you are returning home?".
We had a rule in our house that we have to come home before Maghrib (The prayer time between the sunset and before the disappearance of red twilight).
Understanding the situation, Tahmeed bade his farewell giving salam to my mother and my uncle. Thanks Allah he did not talk much.
My mother told my uncle, "Afser vai (brother), it's getting late already. Let's talk about these matters after reaching home".
I asked my mother about my brother as he was the one going to pick me up today.
I told my mother yesterday about the competition and asked her to come. But she has to go to the capital where my father lived to give him some urgent documents.
My father is in the Army. He is a Cononel. We used to live in the cantonment along with my father. But after the death of my grandmother we moved to the village to look after my blind grandfather and uncles.
My uncles were too young to take care of my grandfather as both of them were in their early 20s. Besides, my grandfather was stubborn to leave his home. As the elder child of the family my father had to make the sacrifice. He came home once in a month for 1/2 days. But sometimes he wasn't able to come home for 2/3 months in earlier days🥲.
Sometimes my mother went to him for a day as she can't leave her family and her kids alone. My childhood passed missing my father as I was only five when we left the cantonment.
That's why I have decided that if I marry someday I'll always stay with my husband. I don't want to suffer like my mother. I don't want my child to grow without his/her father like me🥹.
My mother said my brother fell asleep while reading. My brother and I both read in the same school but we never contact each other much.
He was in class 9 when I got admitted. He was the topper in his class so I didn't want him to waste his time baby sitting me.
Besides, he was not that type to interrupt my life that much. He is in class 10 now and preparing for the SSC exam (High School Graduation).
My mother saw him sleeping after reaching home from the capital and came with one of my uncles to pick me up.
After reaching home I freshened up and went to the hallroom where all the members of my family were present. I showed them the prize that I had won only to cut off by Afser uncle, "Who was that boy?".
The smile in my face vanished and I replied, "He is my friend who lives nearby". I was hurt that no one care for my happiness of winning the competition.
He ordered me, "Stop being frinds with boys. Our family doesn't appreciate this".
I replied, "He was my only male friend and he is a decent boy and my best friend". My uncle shot me a death glare and started to say something but my mother stopped him.
"Afser stop. I know my girl and she share me everything about her school life. I know her friends. I have trust in my daughter. She won't do something that tarnishes our reputation".
My uncle didn't say anything after hearing this as he can't say anything to his elder sister-in-laws. He left the hall room with his wife.
After everyone left except my mother, she said kissing my forehead, "Congratulations my child". My brother also hugged me and said sorry for not being able to pick me up. "Congratulations my baby sis, let me see your trophy".
I cried in happiness seeing them interested in my success. I also missed my father so gave him a call. He was also very happy that I had participated in something other than regular study. I internally thanked Tahmeed for giving me the inspiration and courage.
The next day when I went to the school I saw Tahmeed standing outside the main gate. He came to me running and said in a worried tone, " Are you okay All? Did your family give you a hard time for being late?".
I replied with smile, "No. My mother backed me up. Actually my family never saw me with boys before so they became worried".
That's quite true. As my father was unable to take care of us regularly he ordered his brothers to take care of us. They loved me a lot but they were just overprotective of their reputation. Reputation is much more important to them then anything else.
Tahmeed relived hearing reply and said, "I knew it that auntie would protect you. She is the best. When I tasted her cooking for the first time I knew she was a person with a warm heart".
My jaw dropped hearing that. He was such a charmer that he knew people by tasting their cooking. Heh, Auntie's cheerleader😏. I warned him playfully, "Hey, stop flirting about my mom's cooking".
"Huh, Are you jealous? Do you even know how to fry an egg?" he smirked.I hit him my water bottle, "why should I? My husband will cook for me in the future☺️".
He laughed out loud and said, "Stop dreaming, girl. No one is gonna marry such a idler. And stop hitting me for the sake of Allah It's hurting".
"No I won't. And my intention was to hurt you." I replied hitting him more.
"Hey! my fellew brother and sister stop fighting. World needs peace" Rima joined us saying dramatically.
"Why are you coming from this side? This is the room of class 10. Were you go there to stalk my brother? ", I asked raising my brows.Yes, Rima had a crush on my brother. I wanted to play the part of cupid but Rima would kill me if I do this. Besides, my family will banish me if I do this.
Rima blushed and said, " what were you thinking girl. I was just passing by".
"Well, we understood what we should have, right Tahmeed?". I asked him playfully.
Tahmeed winked, " Yupp. But girls for how long we are going to stand here. Let's go otherwise we have to sit on the last row".
"Hay Allah! I forgot. Let's go", I said hurriedly.
