_______________________It was my first time going to the office with him. Since we had made our marriage public, he suggested we go together. The whole ride, my hand rested in his, a comforting gesture, though nervousness still fluttered inside me about what people would think.
As we entered the building, I gently pulled my hand away, stepping aside. I was never one for public displays of affection.
Once I entered my office space, my colleagues, along with my team leader immediately started teasing me about keeping the marriage secret for so long.
"You really thought we didn't notice anything? The way he kept ogling you during meetings? We suspected something was up, but marriage? That was completely out of the syllabus!" one of my colleagues said, grinning.
"Guys, let her breathe," Rafi added with a playful smirk, pretending to show concern, though his eyes sparkled with teasing.
I could only blush in response, unsure of how to react. They continued their gossip and laughter, even as work piled up around us.
I finally sat down to start working when a text popped up on my phone. I unlocked it, only to see an unknown number sending a message that froze me in place:
"Did he know? What happened back then? I don't think so..
But he will know in a few days and see how he leaves you."No..this can't happen.. Not now not ever. I can't bear his hatred. My Tahu!
In an instant, my chest tightened, the walls seeming to close in around me. My breathing became shallow...another panic attack.
Not here... not now.
I had to get out.
"I need a minute," I mumbled, more to myself than anyone else, before quickly slipping away unnoticed, my colleagues still too busy gossiping about Tahmeed and me.
Once I reached the washroom, I locked the door and slid down against the cool tiles, my breathing growing worse. It felt like someone was squeezing my chest, pressing down on my heart. I closed my eyes, trying to calm myself, but minutes passed...twelve...fifteen before I could even think straight again.
Suddenly, a knock startled me, causing my breath to catch.
"Bhabi, are you there?" Sarah's concerned voice called through the door.
