When his lips met mine, I felt like I was floating, completely swept away by his sudden, bold move. For a split second, I thought I was dreaming. But before I could even fully embrace the joy, a flash from my past crashed over me. Panic replaced the bliss. Tears blurred my vision, my heart clenched, and my breathing grew shallow. My palms felt damp with sweat.

Unaware, he continued, gently nibbling my lower lip. Then, he paused, feeling my tears on his hand as he cupped my face.

"All… are you crying?" he whispered, pulling back. "I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have acted without asking, without giving you time to feel comfortable."

Feeling weak, I sank down onto the grass, trying to steady my breathing, sensing the telltale signs of a panic attack.

Please, not now, I silently pleaded. Allah, don’t let this precious moment be ruined.

I closed my eyes, giving myself a butterfly hug, counting down to calm myself. Suddenly, I felt his arms wrap around me in a gentle, familiar embrace, his hand caressing my back in slow, soothing strokes.

"I’m so sorry, All. I didn’t mean to surprise you like that. I won’t do it again, I promise," he murmured softly.

I wanted to tell him it wasn’t his fault, that he hadn’t done anything wrong, but no words would come. I stayed silently nestled in his arms, waiting for the storm inside me to pass.

Gradually, my breathing returned to normal. I looked up at him, guilt heavy in my gaze.

"You okay now?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

"Yeah…" I managed, glancing down. "I don’t know what to say, Tah…"

"You don’t have to say anything. Let’s get you home. You don’t look well," he said gently.

"Okay," I murmured, grateful for his understanding.

After we reached home, we bid Mom goodbye and headed back to the city.

When I opened my eyes, I was back in my room. Did I fall asleep in the car? He must have carried me inside.

I went to the kitchen to get some water and spotted him through the window, sitting alone on the lawn, staring at the sky. My heart ached seeing him like that, but I didn’t have the courage to join him. Tahmeed Ahmed Chowdhury kissed me. The thought made my heart race again. That magical moment had come, yet my past had shattered it in an instant.

His words echoed in my mind. He truly wanted to give us a chance. But instead, I had let my panic steal the beauty of the day we’d spent together.
