When she began to sway, her face paling and her steps unsteady, I moved instinctively, catching her just as she was about to collapse. Holding her in my arms, fear tightened in my chest. I gently called her name and sprinkled water on her face, my heart pounding at the sight of her like this. After a few tense moments, her eyes fluttered open, and I exhaled deeply, feeling a wave of relief wash over me.
Allah, I thought, this girl might drive me insane one day with how much she makes me worry.
I had intended to share the truth about this marriage with her after the prayer. But seeing her so vulnerable, looking at me with those hopeful, tired eyes, I couldn't bring myself to do it.....not tonight.
Instead, I took a silent vow to ease her burdens in whatever way I could, if only for the moments we had here and now.

It was 3 a.m. when I returned to our room, finding her asleep in my bed, a vision of peace. In the dim glow, she looked like a second moon had found its way here, softening every corner of the room with her presence. But just like the moon in the sky, she felt out of reach.
To resist the pull, I chose to stay out on the balcony, keeping my distance. I knew that if I allowed myself to be close to her, I'd start falling for her all over again. And she'd only end up breaking my heart-she's always been good at that.
Eventually, I lay down on the couch in the corner. I barely got an hour and a half of restless sleep before the call to prayer stirred me awake. After performing ablution, I offered my Salah, feeling the quiet calm of the early morning settle around me.
I was just about to wake her for prayer when she shifted, slowly opening her eyes. My face was close to hers, and she blinked in surprise.
"I was going to wake you for Salah," I said, pulling back a little. "Are you feeling alright?"
She nodded, her voice barely a whisper. "Good morning."
Her sleepy, puffy gaze caught me off guard. She looked so adorable that I had to fight an urge to kiss her soft, pinkish cheeks.
"What are you thinking, Tahmeed?" my mind scolded, trying to ground me.
Lost in the moment, I didn't realize how long I'd been staring until she covered her cheeks, looking flustered. "I... need to do wudu," she murmured, rushing toward the washroom.
"Slowly now," I muttered, watching her. "You'll end up tripping at this rate."
And with a sigh, I watched her disappear, still unable to shake the lingering warmth of her presence.
