It was a bumpy ride to her home, and throughout the journey, Aliya’s hands never left my waist. I could sense her fear of riding on a bike, her grip tight and tentative.

After dropping her off, I made my way back home, the weight of the day’s events lingering on my mind.

As soon as I stepped inside, my younger sister Sarah came rushing towards me, her eyes bright with excitement. “What did Bhabi say?” she asked eagerly.

"Well, she’s not your Bhabi yet, kiddo," I replied, a smirk playing on my lips at her enthusiasm.

"Hey! I’m not a kiddo anymore! I’m only two years younger than you, and I got engaged before you did!" she shot back, puffing her chest out proudly.

"Yeah? Should I ask Ahsan to bring his family over to discuss your marriage then?" I teased, trying to stifle my laughter.

"Aghhh! That’s not fair, bhai!" she whined, playfully rolling her eyes before storming off to her room.

Just then, my mother entered, having overheard our banter. She looked at me with a hopeful expression. “Did Aliya accept our proposal?”

"Well, Mom, she’s going to perform Ishtikhara Salah before making her decision," I replied, trying to keep my tone light despite the heaviness in my heart.

"What a lovely thought. She truly is a gem, MashaAllah! I can’t wait to make her my Bou Ma," my mother exclaimed, her excitement evident.

"Just don’t forget your promise, Mom, because I’m keeping mine," I reminded her, a note of seriousness creeping into my voice.

"Okay, my son. But first, let me see you settled down. Who knows if I’ll ever get to see those dreams come true," she said, a bittersweet smile crossing her lips.

"Please don't say such ominous words mom. Nothing will happen to you. You just need surgery". I say her hugging.
