Here Comes the Sun

//Late September//

"Ash," Phoenix whispers, lightly shaking him awake, "kiddo..."

"It's my birthday!" he suddenly jumps up and knocks his mom off the bed. That was, quicker than expected.

They look at each other with a shocked expression and then start laughing; she stands back up and wraps him in a tight hug. He smells like farts; he should take a shower but he'll be late.

"Happy birthday baby boy," she mumbles.

"I'm no longer a baby, mommy. I'm a hero now," he steps away from the hug to put his fists on his hips, posing like All Might does.

Phoenix laughs, "you're still going to be my baby even if you're a hero," she tries fixing his bed head but it's useless, she gives up and pushes him down.

"Are you taking me with dad?" he asks, climbing down the bed to go and brush his teeth like he usually does.

He knows how to do most things on his own; he had to get used to his mom always being in a hurry. But he was more than happy to know how to do things by himself, made him feel more responsible and closer to being a hero.

Except tying his own shoes, he's still learning to do that.

"You know the drill," she fixes his bed and smiles as she hears him shout in victory through the toothbrush in his mouth, "the faster you're ready, the faster you'll be there."

She leaves his room and packs a quick lunch for him, placing the box with his gift beside his lunch bag with her face on it. Personally she didn't want to buy it for him because it was weird, but he insisted so much that Shouta bought it for him so he'd shut up.

Some seconds after, Ash rushes down the stairs, dressed and hair styled messily like usual; he was like a perfect copy of his father, "I'm ready mommy! Oh, what's that? Is that for me?" he asks, taking a closer look at the box.

"Who else kiddo?" he starts trying to open it and Phoenix panics before she snatches it from his hands, "uh uh, no opening it until after breakfast."

He whines but snatches his lunchbox from the table and hurries out the door, into the car and in his seat. The energy he has in his birthday mornings never fails to impress me. Wish I had that energy still.

She's not so old, technically, but she always feels like she is by having a kid already. Most of her ex colleagues are barely starting their hero careers.

The hero locks the door to her house and climbs in the car after, making sure they're both buckled up before driving off.

"What are you going to do today mom?" Ash asks as he plays with the red ribbon on the gift box, eager to open it.

"Well," she makes a stop at the red light and checks her phone for any missed messages, "first i'm dropping you off, then going to get a massage and sleep all day."

"Mom!" Ash whines and she laughs; he most definitely hates sarcasm. He should be used to it by now.

She drops her phone back in the seat and continues her journey, "after I drop you off, I'll go get your cake and set the decorations in the backyard. Then I'll go pick up some surprises and then you; that's pretty much my day, baby."

She doesn't mention stopping by the office because she knows he'll be upset by this. He won't even know either way. Oh and she also has to get in touch with the event manager.

Ash then tells her what he plans on wearing for today's party and she smiles silently to herself; knowing that won't happen. Phoenix pays attention to him nonetheless as they arrive at UA, parking at the entrance.
