Try Me
//Later that evening- Late November//
"This wasn't the plan," The black haired hero glares at the blue flamed murderer, her arms crossed over her chest. The knot in her stomach tightens with every passing second that he stared down at her eyes with his deep blue own, those of a hunter watching their prey. Being under the same roof alone is enough to get her nerves on edge.
"Wasn't it?" The villain asks in the most monotone and bored voice possible. He was really starting to enjoy getting a kick out of the heroine, but the bird's presence was keeping him from truly savoring his success at it.
"I was hoping we could get along better than this, Dabi," Hawks points his feather sword at the villain's neck, not applying pressure on his skin. Phoenix stands by the side, but in the middle of both males.
"Oh?" he arcs a brow with amusement, now entertained and surprised at their reactions. "I thought you only had weak feathers left?"
In the nomu attack a few hours ago, Hawks had lent his feathers to Endeavor, but these ended up burnt in the process. Only a few small ones remained; not even enough to help him fly.
"I can't come unarmed to a meeting with a liar," he glares. "The plan wasn't until tomorrow at the factory near the coast, not in the middle of the fucking city."
This is the first time Phoenix has seen him completely honest about what he's feeling; specially this mad. It's understandable though, a lot of innocent bystanders could have died. His golden and cheerful eyes are no longer as bright as they usually are; they're a dull shade of brown. Is it the poor lightning inside the abandoned warehouse or the intensity of his emotions with no mask on?
"I changed my mind," Dabi replies nonchalantly, the smile on his lips makes it seem like he doesn't care, which he most probably doesn't. "Did I forget to mention that it would be a test for the nomu's abilities? I'm sorry."
Phoenix remains in silence, her heart speeding up every time Dabi's blue eyes shift to her. He looks at her, down and up, knowing damn well the fear he causes in her despite her strong demeanor. She's always acting confident and mighty, but he can see right through her act. It's like she's constantly trying to hide what she truly feels. And this is something he normally hates about heroes, but on her it's different. It's like he truly wants to expose every emotion of hers; to see the real emotional naked version of her.
And he is absolutely fascinated with the effect he has on her; he needs her to kneel down to him. Not in the literal sense, well maybe that also. But he needs her to submit to him once again; the idea of accomplishing it once more is thrilling and puts him on edge. In the very good sense of it.
"I wasn't the only one who didn't act like we had accorded to. You said you'd take a random strong guy. But sending the number one hero isn't exactly a good test; what'd ya think was gonna happen?"
Phoenix shakes her hand, "that thing badly injured him, so you should be glad. We didn't break our promise. You were the only one that didn't keep his word."
"Did you actually think I was going to trust you two that easily? This was a test to see if you were trustworthy. Why did today's small event end without any deaths?" Dabi takes a step to the side, getting away from Hawk's feather. "It's hard to believe that someone who sympathized with our cause and asked to collaborate with us would act this way."
Hawks lowers his feather but keeps it near him, ready to attack any second, "we have to keep the appearances on both of our parts. We can't afford to lose the confidence put on us as heroes. The more people trust us, the better information we can gather. Which will be a benefit for you. Should see the bigger picture."
