Chapter 2

Acquainted

//Three days later- Mid September//

Phoenix takes a sip from her coffee as she drives to her agency after dropping Ash at preschool. Her morning goes throughout the same as it normally would; filling some paperwork, training residents, patrolling, capturing delinquents and helping those who needed it.

At around three pm, the hero is pinning down a burglar who tried robbing some innocent family's house. Only holding him down until the police arrived. It hadn't gone down amicably though, as parts of his shirt had been burnt through the process, all because he hadn't paid attention to her commands.

A whistle from above her head makes her look up in surprise, wondering who ought to interrupt her current task. Upon doing so, her eyes immediately lock with familiar golden ones, covered behind his orange visor that is. He's dressed in his hero attire now, giving him an extra air of greatness.

Hawks lands on his feet in front of her and grins, "might turn into a criminal if that means being pinned down like that by you too."

Phoenix glares up at him, imitating his laugh with a scowl. Her knees rest on the cement floor on both of the burglar's sides, facing down to the hot floor with his hands behind his back, pulled by her own, "keep it up and you might as well not even have to."

"Not fun dude, and definitely not worth it," the burglar whines and Phoenix tugs harder on his hand, making him shut up and whine. Hawks chuckles nervously, extending a wing out to block her from the rays of the burning sun.

"Just making a quick pit stop with an update from our lawyer," he lies with swift nonchalance, eyeing the criminal under the female, "he has to talk to you."

Phoenix groans, "right now? I'm busy."

"Like right now or never. His demands."

Her phone rings inside her thigh holster interrupting her upcoming whine with another complaint. Her hands are quite literally, and metaphorically, full at the moment, so she can't reach for her phone. Hawk notices this and detaches a feather from his wings, grabbing her phone and pulling it up to her ear for her. He grins sheepishly when he's answered with a confused look.

"Hello?"

He takes her distraction to his advantage and scans her hero suit, finally being able to look at it up close. She's dressed in a black, long sleeved skintight shirt, her shoulders wrapped with a hood and a neck gaiter of some sort. Matching cargo pants cover her lower body, cuffed by her combat boots. The seams of the clothing have bright, red glowing flames, used merely for decor. Black spandex gloves cover her hands, but leaving only the tips of her fingers and the palms naked.

"Miss Phoenix Blaise?" Hawks hears thanks to the feather placed near the speaker.

"In the flesh, who is this?"

"Sorry to interrupt your daily hero duties but I'm calling from Masegaki preschool for a meeting call with their parent or guardian, for the student Ash Blaise."

It just had to be that day for Ash to play hero, "fuck, sorry," she immediately apologizes at her unprofessional slip up, wincing at Hawks' attempts to not laugh, "what did he do now?"

"I would rather discuss this in person as this is a serious matter," the woman speaks through the phone, papers ruffling and loud sniffling in the background. If her son was hurt in any possible way, she'd have to take matters into her own hands. And if it was whose kid she suspected, things wouldn't go down as nice as her PR could hope for.

Phoenix glances at the struggling criminal and then up at Hawks, remembering the ongoing issue with the before mentioned 'lawyer'. She didn't know the villain much, but patience wasn't something he seemed to be familiar with. And testing it out didn't sound like a good idea. Luckily, a siren can be heard somewhere in the distance now, approaching the scene. Ash would have to wait just a little longer.
