"Nice job, Brooks."
Brand new private Emily Brooks placed her weapon on the sandbag once she put it back on safe. She looked up and nodded her head at her very first squad leader.
It was only a week ago that Emily finished her Army training and was now officially at her first duty station.
She was assigned to a very high intensity platoon in her battalion and has been working nonstop since she arrived.
It's been a hard week as the people in her platoon haven't been very welcoming since her MOS was more male dominated.
The only person who has been tough, but shown support through his leadership was her sergeant; Tim Bradford.
"I appreciate it Sergeant." Brooke responded as she nodded her head, holding back a smile.
"I know it's been a rough week for you, but building trust within your platoon and squad is earned through sweat and blood. So don't expect anyone to come around until you earn it." Sergeant Bradford explained to his new private.
"I understand."
"You are on the right track." Bradford nodded his head before moving on down the range to make sure his squad is doing what needs to be done.
It's been less than a year since Emily has officially started her military career and now not even less than a week into her first duty station she was getting deployed.
At the end of formation the first sergeant broke the news to the company.
Emily's heart started beating not knowing that she would be getting deployed in foreign country at the ripe age of 18.
She looked to Bradford and the look he gave the brunette calm her down slightly. Emily knew she had to stay strong, especially being the new kid.
