*Flashback*
"Anyone got eyes on Dawson or Shay?!" Chief Boden's voice boomed through the radio trying to find his two paramedics.
Once Severide heard Shay's name he started calling out for Shay, his partner in crime, and best friend. After all they had been through he wouldn't be able to handle losing her.
"Shay call out!!" Severide didn't want to be so vulnerable at this point, but at this point Shay was the only thing that mattered. When he reached the bottom floor of the building he saw Dawson giving CPR to someone. He prayed that it wasn't Shay on the floor it that was the other man. He was wrong. Kelly did everything he could to try to keep Shay alive but it wasn't enough. Once Casey and the others took Shay away from him and Dawson, he just sat there in shock. He might of just lost his best friend after they made a promise to be there for each other, always.
*End of flashback*
Kelly finally snapped out of his daydream of that dreadful day. He was still in his car in front of the firehouse. Today is his first day back to the firehouse since leaving town for a few weeks. As he stepped out of his car he prepared himself for the numerous questions that awaited him inside. He thought that he wouldn't be able handle his first day back, but he knew that he also couldn't live without this job. His remembered hearing is dad tell him. "Disappoint anyone. Hell disappoint everyone. But don't ever disappoint yourself." He knew he would disappoint himself if he ever left this job.
Once he entered the building it was quiet. Mouch was on the couch in his normal spot watching tv, Mills was back in the kitchen getting some breakfast ready, Hermann and Otis were both talking about new ideas for Molly's while Joe was forced to listen on to the conversation. He looked for Casey but he wasn't there. He thought maybe Casey and Dawson were busy doing something together. Headed to the room where everyone else was but decided against it. So he decided to head to the locker room to get changed and ready for the day ahead. As he headed in someone was heading out and they collided. Severide was shocked to see a blonde woman staring up at him trying to apologize.
"Oh my gosh! I am so sorry! Next time I need to watch out where I'm going. My friends have told me that I need to-"
"It's ok" Kelly had cut her off before she started giving him a story. As he looked at her, he thought about how much she looks like Shay. He shook the thought away as soon as he said it in his head. There was an awkward silence so the blonde decided to break the air.
"Um... I'm Brett by the way! Well Sylvie Brett but you can just call me Brett." She held her hand out for him to shake.
"Lieutenant Kelly Severide. You can call me Severide." He shook her hand.
They stood there awkwardly for a few moments staring at each other.
"I should probably go help Dawson restock the ambo" She never took her eyes off of him as if her life depended on it but she knew she had to go.
"Oh yea! I should get ready too" They both departed ways to get ready for their day.
For some reason Kelly wanted to dislike the girl but didn't have the heart to. As he thought about her he thought that his first day back might not be as bad as he thought....A/N Hi!
