Lyra
Time passed quickly and before I know it I am getting ready for the party with Aaron. This week has been pretty cool. I have been so busy with new project that I barely had time. Aaron and I met hardly four times this whole week. We were fine with it and it didn't felt odd.
Aaron and I prepare meals whenever we have time. He would make sure to message me every day at lunch. He would remind me to have lunch even if I was busy. He didn't bother me much when I have work and vice versa. It is like we understood each other priorities clearly.
Today I came early as we have to attend a charity event. I asked Kate to get me a dress for the event. I got ready in one shoulder midnight blue gown. It is studded with beads and has a slit from right thigh. I paired it with black heels and braided my hair. "You look beautiful" Aaron complimented me when he came in.
He was wearing same color suit with white shirt inside it. "You look handsome too" he smiled coming towards me. "I brought you something" before I can ask him what it is I felt something cold on my neck. I looked down and saw a small pendant attached to a chain. "This is so pretty" I gushed holding the locket in my hands. "You are so pretty"
"We should go" I grabbed his arm and dragged him downstairs with me. "Let me get my keys" he stopped in living room and got his keys. "You are driving?" I asked him confused when he got in driver seat. "Yes, get in" he opened the door for me and I quickly got in.
When we reached the place outside was filled with reporters. They were snapping pictures of everyone who came. "I thought it is just a small party" I whispered to Aaron. "Christian holds the best parties of our city. This is common for his parties" he wrapped his arm around my waist and guided me inside. He let me go once we got in and he held my hand instead. "Come on, I will introduce you to my business partners" I followed him through the crowd. We stopped at a table which was filled with middle aged men and women. He introduced me to them and had a small chat with them.
I was getting bored with their talk so I decided to leave the place. I looked around and spotted the drinks bar. "I will be right back" Aaron nodded and let go of my hand. I made my way to the aisle and got soda.
These charity events happen only for two reasons. First reason is people come to flaunt their money. They don't care about the charity honestly. They only come to show how much money they have. I believe if you help someone you shouldn't show it off. We shouldn't expect anything back from there. If you do expect something then it will be business not help. But people don't feel that way.
Second reason is to get contacts. This is where we meet new people and make new business deals. Most of the business men like Aaron comes to create opportunities either to their company or others. "Look who it is" I turned to my right and saw Mrs. Aubert. "Hi, I didn't expect to see you here" she gave me hug. "Chris is my nephew" I didn't know that. I got her a drink and she was telling me about her nephew. Apparently he is also in the same business and he is one of the top ten companies in this filed.
"Hey" I flinched when I felt someone touch my bare back. "I am sorry. I got delayed with my chat" I smiled at him despite the chill I felt. "Is this your husband?" I introduced them. "This is Aaron Conant, my husband" he shook her hand. "Aaron, this is Mrs. Aubert."
"Oh call me Karen dear. I am sure we passed the last name stage" I nodded at her words. "I heard about you from Lyra. She is very excited to work with you" I was surprised he remembered my conversation about her. I thought he wasn't even listening that night when I spoke to him about it. "I am too. She is very talented and I am confident about this project"
"She told me you are planning to open a branch in France" she looked at me before replying him. "We are planning for it. Have you been to France before?" I think he would have went there multiple times for business. "Why don't you both come to France next time? You can count it as mini honeymoon" my eyes widened. "We would love to" Aaron agreed before I can make an excuse. "Great" her eyes lit up in delight so I couldn't say no to her. "You must stay at our place then"
"Aunt Karen" blonde hair guy came to us. "This is Christian, my nephew" Karen introduces us. Aaron and Christian seem to know each other. He didn't talk much and left saying he has to attend some guests. He promised to invite us over for dinner though. "Why did you agree to France trip" I hissed once they left. "I thought you wouldn't want to offend her" he blinked his eyes confused. "I am not going on honeymoon"
"I am not going anywhere for that matter" he chuckled at my angry expression. "Let's consider it as friend's trip rather than honeymoon" he kissed my forehead making me still. "You look cute when you are angry" he left before I can scold him. I frowned seeing his behavior. He just said we can be friends and then he kissed me out of the blue.
Wait didn't he say he will not touch me without permission?
But he did say we have to pretend in front of others.
"Didn't expect you to get a hunk" I heard a voice behind me. "I didn't think you would be able to get anyone at all" I clenched my teeth when I realized who it is. "Clara" I spat. "Good to see you Lyra. You haven't changed at all" she observed me from up to down. "Still the same old plain Lyra"
"And I see you are the same bitch you were before" she chuckled. "Congratulations on your wedding. I am hurt that you didn't even invite your old friend" I felt like beating the crap out of her. "You were never a friend Clara" I got closer to her. "You were just jealous bitch who couldn't let others be happy"
"It is not my fault Liam left you babe. You are the problem" her eyes flickered to something behind me. "It seems people get bored of you easily. Liam did and so did Aaron" I turned around and saw a girl kissing Aaron on the cheek. They were so close to each other and he looked euphoric with her. "Aaron is not like Liam. I don't have to explain my life to you" with that I walked away from her.
I did defend him in front of her out of my own ego but I know all the men are same. Aaron is exactly same as Liam. He did the same thing as Liam did. Whatever the respect and trust I started having in Aaron lost in that moment.
