Colt couldn't wrap his head around the fact that there was a vampire living right under his nose. A goddamn bloodsucker in his territory... and he had no idea. He didn't know how this could even be possible.
On top of that, it was Roman's brother? Did Roman know what Ezra was? He had to, didn't he? Does that mean he knew of the existence of werewolves too? There were so many questions circling Colt's mind as he drove. It didn't take him long to find Roman's address. He just had to call the hospital where he worked. It was against their policies to give out personal information of any employee, but he was Colton Rhodes. He owned the town.
Colt wanted to go alone, but Theo insisted on tagging along. The Alpha thought it was stupid, because obviously, no matter what Roman knew or didn't know, it wasn't possible for Colt to lose his control in front of him anyway.
The building where Roman lived was pretty run down, and close to the border of the town. As Theo and Colt neared his apartment, they glanced at each other in confusion. They could hear two people inside, and they could smell Roman but...but not his brother. They should've been able to sense a vampire, especially at such a close range.
Colt knocked and waited.
A surprised Roman opened the door, clearly confused as to why the werewolf was there.
"Colt? What are you doing here?" Roman asked. "I thought I told you I needed time to think about—"
"I'm not here because of that," Colt cut him off, his tone stern and pointed. "Where is he? Where is your brother?"
Colt could feel Roman's blood run cold. It showed on his face that his mate was panicking.
"He's not...he's not home," Roman mumbled.
"Don't lie to me, Roman," Colt said. "I can hear him breathing."
"That's—"
"But I can only hear one heartbeat. Yours." Colt continued, staring at Roman right in the eye. "Because your brother is a vampire, isn't he?"
Roman was speechless. He couldn't lie. Colt would know if he did. His secret was out. Both their secrets were out. There was no more hiding or deceiving. All of their cards were on the table now.
"What are you going to do to him?" Roman questioned, trying to sound strong. He wasn't going to let anybody harm his brother. Even the man he loved.
"Ask questions, for now," Colt answered. "And then I'll decide what to do with him."
"You'll have to go through me if you plan on touching him, Colt. I'm serious," Roman stated.
Colt didn't know how to respond to that. He could never hurt Roman. Not under any circumstance. This was going to be a tough matter to deal with.
"I'm not going to harm him," Colt assured. "I just want answers, Roman. Unless you want me to go ask Isaiah for them?"
Roman's eyes widened at the name. It was evident that he recognized it. Not only that, but he seemed...scared.
"How do you know about Isaiah?" Came an unfamiliar voice. Finally, Ezra stepped out of the bedroom, coming into view.
Colt stared at him, a frown on his face as he glanced at Theo, who has the same look. It was clear that Ezra was a vampire. His heart wasn't beating. But he...he didn't smell like one. He smelled human.
Ezra nodded at Roman, and the swimmer allowed the werewolves inside. They were on edge. Even though this was their territory, it felt like stepping into a vampire's done. It was uncomfortable for everyone in the room.
