"You told him that I wasn't here, didn't you? So he'll just leave. Right? He has no reason to stay and keep looking here," Ezra questioned.
He seemed desperate and scared. If the circumstances were different then maybe Colt would've felt any pity for him. A part of him did feel bad after hearing their story, but at the end of the day, he was still a vampire. A bloodsucker that was living right under his nose without permission. That was a major offense, and Colt couldn't just ignore that.
Even if said vampire was his mate's brother.
"I wouldn't be too sure of that if I were you," Theo muttered.
"Exactly," Colt agreed. "We don't know what or who his source was that told him that you were hiding here. He might not take my word for it and keep sniffing around. God knows he has no reason to trust me."
"But he can't enter your territory. So Ezra is safe here, isn't he?" Roman asked. Colt pressed his lips in a thin line as he looked at his mate, who was staring back at him with hope in his eyes.
Roman didn't understand pack politics. Sure, technically Ezra was safe as long as he was in town. But that was the point. He should never have been there. If anybody from Colt's pack were to find out... it would not end well for the ones involved. They would expect Colt to deal with him. A werewolf pack giving refuge to a vampire was completely unheard of.
"Technically, yes. But he cannot stay here," Theo spoke for his Alpha.
"Why not?" Roman frowned.
"Because he's a vampire!"
"He's my brother!" The swimmer argued, making the beta sigh.
"That doesn't matter. We do not allow the undead here. He's not welcome, and he should be counting his lucky stars that you're Colt's mate. Otherwise we would've ripped his heart out already," Theo snapped.
"Are you fucking kidding? I get that you have your laws and territorial bullshit but he's innocent and—"
"No, you don't get it, actually. You're human. You have no idea how all of this works. You—"
"That's enough, Theo," Colt stated firmly, cutting off the other werewolf. Theo seemed annoyed, but he obeyed the order nonetheless.
"Colt... come on, Colt. You can't do this. You can't kill—"
"I'm not going to hurt Ezra," Colt spoke, glancing from his mate to his brother, both of whom seemed to finally breathe out in relief. "But Theo is right. Now that we know a vampire trespassed and has been living on our land, we cannot allow him to stay any longer. At least not without facing any possible repercussions."
"What? You're going to kick him out? You can't do that! Isaiah will find him and you know what he will do, Colt. You know that. He's dead if he leaves town! You can't... Please don't do this," Roman begged, and it made Colt's heart ache to see his mate in such a state. Each drop of Roman's tears was like a stab in his chest.
"Well, technically he isn't alive in the first place," Theo muttered. Roman whipped his head to glare at the beta. He took a step towards him, but Colt intervened.
"Theo," Colt paused. "Outside. Now."
Theo nodded, and with one last hateful glance at the vampire, he walked out of the apartment. Colt looked at his mate, and then at his brother. Ezra was too quiet, and Colt wanted to ask what he thought about the situation, but he frankly couldn't care any less about his opinion. Colt was at a loss for what to do, but he knew the first step was calming his beta down.
"I'll be right back," Colt mumbled before going after Theo, who was waiting in the hallway for him.
Theo was pacing around, and he looked pissed. Colt was aware of how much Theo hated vampires, but he needed his beta to be cool and collected. Colt was supposed to be the hotheaded one with a short fuse, not Theo.
