"Seriously, Colt?" Theo questioned, folding his arms in front of his chest with a disappointed look on his face. "You just dismissed your mate like he was a nobody."
"Technically, he is a nobody. I only just met him," Colt muttered.
"You're unbelievable!" The irritation was clear on Theo's face, making Colt sigh. "Don't give me the 'I'm your Alpha' crap now, okay? I'm also your best friend. And as your best friend it's my duty to tell you when you're being an idiot!"
"Tread carefully, Theo," Colt warned.
"Just— Trevor!" The beta called for his brother, waving at him. Trevor quickly made his way towards the other two werewolves, glancing between them inquisitively.
"'Sup?" Trevor asked, not sounding a hundred percent sober.
"He's your responsibility now, make sure he talks to his mate and doesn't like the grumpy Neanderthal that he is," Theo said. "Hira called me, I'm going back to the pack house."
"Did something happen?" Colt asked, immediately alarmed.
"Chill, nothing that's an Alpha level emergency," Theo answered. "This is why you have me. To deal with the trivial matters while you try and woo your mate."
"I don't want to woo anyone," Colt retorted.
"You— This is on you now, Trev, I'm out," was all Theo said before walking away from his brother and Alpha. Trevor frowned in confusion, before looking at Colt who simply seemed exhausted.
"I'm leaving too," Colt muttered.
"You sure you don't want to spend some time around your mate?" Trevor asked.
"Like I just said, I don't want to woo anyone," Colt repeated.
"You sure?" Trevor questioned again, before motioning his head to the side.
Colt followed Trevor's gaze, only for his eyes to land on Roman talking to a girl. From the smile on his face and their body language, and the way that she was laughing at every word that came out of Roman's mind and running her fingers up and down his arm... it was clear what both of them were up to.
Colt closed his palms into fists, controlling his claws from coming out. He didn't know his mate. He didn't want his mate. Then why the fuck was he feeling so jealous?
"Maybe I can stay for a bit," Colt stated with greeth teeth. Trevor grinned proudly as he patted Colt's shoulder.
"Leave the rest to me, I don't want you ripping some poor clueless girl's throat."
Colt wordlessley followed behind Trevor, who along the way gathered a couple of his other friends, before calling Roman over as well. Roman excused himself from the girl that he was talking to and made his way to the other guys.
"We still on for the beach tomorrow, boys?" Trevor asked.
"I'm in," said one of his friends. A few others chimed in too, agreeing to the plan.
"How about some rugby while we're there?" Trevor suggested, wrapping his arm around Colt's shoulder casually. "This man here is a serious player."
That was a lie. Colt had never played rugby in his entire life. Roman rose a questioning eyebrow at Colt, that nobody else seemed to notice. Colt didn't respond in any way, maintaining an expressionless exterior.
"I'm calling dibs on him being in my team," said a blond guy.
"You can't just call dibs on someone, Lou," remarked another. "That too a night before."
