Katherine

I made my way to my desk, feeling a strange mix of residual excitement and nervousness from the previous night's events. I had barely settled into my chair when Libbi approached, her eyes wide with excitement.

"Wow, girl, you are all over the internet!" she exclaimed, practically bouncing with enthusiasm.

I looked up, confused. "What are you talking about?"

She whipped out her phone and thrust it towards me. The screen displayed an article with the headline: "A Very Special Person: CEO Cruz Romano and His Mystery Date Steal the Show." Beneath the headline was a photo of Cruz and me, locked in an intimate gaze, followed by another of us sharing a passionate kiss.

I facepalmed myself, groaning inwardly. "Oh no."

Libbi giggled, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "So, did anything happen after that kiss?"

I shot her a look. "Shut up, Libbi. Nothing happened."

Her grin widened. "Uh-huh, sure. You're blushing!"

I sighed, memories of last night flooding back. After Cruz dropped me off near my apartment, he had pulled me close, his eyes dark with intensity. "I can't let you go without another taste," he murmured, his breath warm against my skin.

"What are you doing?" I asked, my voice trembling with a mix of anticipation and confusion.

"Something I should have done earlier," he replied, his tone leaving no room for argument. His lips crashed onto mine, demanding and urgent. The kiss was deep, consuming, leaving me breathless and wanting more. His hands tangled in my hair, pulling me closer as if he couldn't bear to let go. For a moment, the world disappeared, leaving just the two of us in a bubble of passion.

Libbi's teasing voice pulled me back to the present. "See, you are blushing."

I shook my head, trying to clear the lingering heat. "You're imagining things."

The rest of the day at the hospital was a blur of strange looks. Some of my colleagues glanced at me with a mix of curiosity and disdain, while others seemed almost pitying. A few even looked jealous. It was unnerving, to say the least. Every time someone whispered behind their hand or stared a little too long, I felt the weight of the situation pressing down on me.

During lunch, Libbi approached me again, her phone in hand. "Look at this," she said, showing me another article. The headline read: "Rich CEO Cruz Romano Spotted with Stunning Actress- Juliana." The accompanying photo showed Cruz standing close to a beautiful woman, his back to the camera, while she smiled brightly at something he said. A pang of jealousy shot through me, unexpected and unwelcome.

I tried to keep my voice steady. "Who's that?"

Libbi shrugged. "No idea. But she looks cozy with Cruz, don't you think?"

I felt a lump form in my throat. "Yeah, she does."

Libbi noticed my expression and raised an eyebrow. "Jealous much?"

I forced a smile. "No, I'm fine. Just... overwhelmed."

The rest of the day dragged on, and by the time I finally left the hospital, I felt drained and confused. My thoughts were a tangled mess of emotions—jealousy, excitement, confusion, and an undeniable attraction to Cruz.

Back at my apartment, I collapsed onto the couch, staring blankly at the ceiling. The memory of Cruz's kiss lingered on my lips, and despite everything, I couldn't help but smile. Maybe this was more than I had bargained for, but there was no denying the thrill of it all.

My phone buzzed, jolting me out of my thoughts. It was a message from Cruz: "Thinking about you. Can we talk?"

My heart skipped a beat. I hesitated for a moment, then replied: "Sure."

Almost immediately, my phone rang. I answered, my voice shaky. "Hello?"

"Katherine," Cruz's deep voice sent shivers down my spine. "I wanted to apologize for the chaos today. I didn't expect things to get so out of hand."

I took a deep breath. "It's okay, Cruz. I just... I'm not used to this kind of attention."

"I know," he said softly. "I hate that it's affecting you like this. I never wanted to cause you any trouble."

There was a pause, the silence heavy with unspoken words. Finally, I spoke. "Cruz, who was that woman in the article?"

He sighed. "An old fling. There's nothing between us, I promise. The media loves to make stories out of nothing."

"I hope you're right," I whispered, my voice barely audible.

"Katherine," he said, his tone firm. "You mean more to me than any of those rumors. I want you to trust me."

I closed my eyes, the weight of his words settling over me. "It's just... hard. It is so easy for you to say she is a fling. All of this is so new to me."

"I understand," he replied gently. "But I'm here for you. We'll get through this together."

"Okay," I said, a small smile creeping onto my face. "Together."

"Good," he said, and I could hear the smile in his voice. "I'll see you soon, Katherine."

As the call ended, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. Maybe this was more than I had bargained for, but there was no denying the thrill of it all. I was in deep, but with Cruz by my side, maybe—just maybe—I could navigate the storm.
