"Oi, how much for the woman?"

A craftsman looked at me questioningly.

"What do you mean?"

"I've been here for a few weeks and the nights are so lonely. So I'd be willing to spent something, if you understand."

"Oh, a friendly piece of advice from me then. We're near the Doom Forest and anyone who lives here has to have a certain strength. So I would advise you to think twice before you want to force someone to do something. Otherwise it could be an abrupt end for you."

"Woaw woaw, take it easy. You could have just said no. I'm not a monster."

"You never know what the other side is planning. That's why I wanted to give you a heads up."

"Understood, I have to go."

He quickly left the cave.

"Tzz tzz, some people really have no shame. Although when I look at Sarah, I do feel a bit sorry for him."

"Ah, Mia. It had to happen sooner or later. Let's just hope he doesn't forget my warning and maybe spreads it around."

"Should I keep an eye on Sarah?"

"She's my bodyguard, I think she can do it quite well on her own. You shouldn't underestimate her."

"Oh, I've never seen her fight. Do you mind if I test her a bit?"

"Well..."

"Mia, that's going too far. Sorry Marco, you don't have to answer that. Come on, Mia, our shift starts soon."

Albert pushed Mia outside.

I seemed to have been lucky again. I often had Sven with me as a bodyguard at the moment and only when he couldn't do it, did Sarah take over. The reason was simple, Sarah mainly uses ice magic to fight, but that's exactly what we shouldn't show so openly. She practiced sword fighting with me, but like me she was still more of a beginner. So the task was moved to somepne else. If she would have to duel with Mia now, the ice magic would probably have come out.

A little later, the craftsmen suddenly streamed into the cave.

"Come on, I don't want to get caught by the monsters."

"Hey Marco, didn't you say you were strong? Go outside and help the adventurers with the monsters."

"Exactly. Show that you're worthy of having an outpost."

Bruno also came down and took his club. It was too much of a hindrance when working outside, so he stowed it in the cave. We went outside with him. Paul stood at the wall that was still to be built and watched the monsters in the distance. When the wooden floorboards gave us away, he turned to us.

"Ah, Marco. It's good that you're coming. Then we can do a practical test right away. What do they call them there?"

He pointed to the edge of the forest where the monsters had appeared.

"Tusk wild boars."

"Right, how many can we expect of them?"

"Hmm, they travel in packs and since it's almost autumn, there will only be one boar with a few sows and their piglets."

"Exactly, with the adventurers present we should be well prepared, so let's enjoy the spectacle."

He asked me a few more questions while we watched the adventurers at work. My gaze fell on the demigroup. They had split up. Albert walked slightly diagonally towards the forest. Viktor, on the other hand, walked more parallel to the forest. Then he stood up and aimed his bow at one of the wild boars. His shot did not miss, but only caused the monster a slight wound.

Due to their almost human size, some no longer considered them animals. The long tusks that gave them their name had already cost many people their lives.

Angrily, it turned in his direction and snorted. It pawed the ground briefly with its hooves before charging at Viktor. But on the way to it, Albert had positioned himself and swung his morning star against one of the legs. The impact threw the wild boar off balance and it fell. Due to the speed, it slipped for a while and as soon as it came to a stop, an arrow pierced its head. Viktor had used the moment to deal it the fatal blow.

Mia and Winfried were not idle. They had also taken on one of the monsters. Mia threw one of her daggers at one of the animals and, like Viktor, got its full attention. Although she had no one to make it fall for her, she still insisted on showing the animal her tongue and butt. When it was about to run her over, she jumped over it with amazing skill and stabbed her remaining dagger into its head. But the dagger was apparently too small. The monster turned around to run over Mia again. But now it was Winfried's turn. He used the monster's short turnaround time to ram his sword behind its head. The wild boar twitched briefly and then collapsed.

"Mia, didn't I warn you to be careful?"

"Oh, come on, Winfried. What's the fun in that and nothing happened."

"And what if... MIA, BEHIND YOU!"

An arrow whizzed past Mia's head. She turned around in shock. One of the monsters had seen her actions and wanted revenge. Viktor had noticed it and tried to distract from her with the arrow. But it was too late to save her with that alone. But thanks to the attacker's change of direction, Mia was able to jump to safety in time. Albert repeated the previous tactic with Viktor.

When they had assured themselves that there was no longer any danger, he came up to Mia and gave her a light blow on the head.

"Ouch, what was that for?"

"Isn't it obvious? You know that we always have to make a good impression. It's especially difficult right now, when there's so much going on, and then you pull off something like this. Who do you think is watching us right now?"

The group looked towards the house, where they could see several figures. Of course I was among them, looking in their direction.

"I'm sorry."

"You have to be more careful. The challenge to a duel earlier was another of those missteps."

"But I haven't had the chance to meet Sarah yet. How can I pass up the chance? Besides, isn't it a good opportunity to prove my skills?"

"Have you forgotten that Sarah is occasionally Marco's bodyguard? Do you think he would be happy if a Demi defeated his guard? No matter who wins the duel, it would hurt you. Don't forget what our position is in this world."
