I sent Bruno and Karl to get more meat. Even though we had already started stocking up in the cold room. Such a large group was very demanding. Not just in terms of our supply, but also physically. While they were both out, I and Sarah rested a bit, to get fit again for the evening. While I admit, that I have few concerns about Aron's presence, the crystal did not agree and gave me a restless night. In this respect, the sudden calm was fine with me.
When lunch was over, we slowly started preparing. Now that we knew, we would have a lot of guests in the evening, we were able to prepare some dishes. From the previous two meals, we knew quite well, what was required. Adventurers mainly wanted meat, so we brought it a little further away from the ice block, so that they wouldn't be too cooled and would warm up quickly. Some were also interested in the salads and they didn't need to be warmed, so we were able to get them ready in advance. Bruno couldn't help, he only took a short break for lunch and was otherwise busy restocking our camp. This time he also brought some herbs with him. I asked Aron to show us later which ones were suitable as medicine or, if possible, to bring some with him when they returned.
In the evening there was a loud noise outside, announcing the arrival of the adventurers. Laughing and happy, they streamed into the cave and announced their victory. They really wanted to show me the loot outside, but I politely declined. However, they only calmed down, when I sent them out with Bruno.
"Sorry for being so persistent. But they just didn't know, who was going to make it back, so they're a little excited now, that it's over."
"No problem. Shall we use the time and look at the herbs, that Bruno brought?"
"Probably makes sense, once they return, it won't be a quiet time. Then let's see."
I showed Aron what Bruno and Karl had brought together. According to him, a large amount were just weeds, but a few could be quite useful.
"You should store a lot of this, you can use it almost any time."
He pointed to one that eased the pain.
"Thank you."
"Nothing to thank for. Should something major happen in the future, we will be happy to know where we can quickly find remedies. We'll be using some of it today."
As soon as we were finished, the adventurers came back with Bruno.
"Then bring out the good wine and let's celebrate."
"I'm sorry, but we don't have anything like that here."
"Eh? And you want to be a inn. You still have a long way to go."
"We're not finished with the job yet. If you can't protect the wagon properly tomorrow because of your hangover, you can hear something. We'll celebrate, when we get back to town!"
"Yes Boss!"
The adventurers briefly froze at the admonition, but the mood quickly lightened, when I announced that the first portions of meat were ready. The adventurers ate plenty again and told stories and jokes past night fall. Until Aron forced them into bed, so they could leave early in the morning. The adventurers kept a little distance from me, Aron's group were the only ones, who started talking to me.
"Before you leave again, I have one more request."
"Tell me"
"As you can see again and again, we lack a lot of resources. I would therefore like to have someone, who would buy me things from time to time and bring them over. For a fee, of course. I just have to get money somehow. Therefore, I would like to charge money for my services in the future."
"Makes sense. When there's more going on, we can't always guess what's still needed."
"Exactly. I've just lived out here so long, that I've lost touch with money. Can you tell me what would be appropriate?"
"Hmm, well, even though we much prefer being able to rest here. So the comfort is very low. I think you can charge maybe 5 copper coins for one night."
"But you shouldn't forget that you have hay beds and Marco is on guard. So a little something is already achieved. It may not be comfortable, I agree, but it's better than 5 copper coins. I think you can go up to 10."
"That's right, there's no need to guard, so you can rest better. When it comes to eating, I think you should see for yourself, what your effort is. Guess since it's still pretty simple, it won't be worth too much."
I discussed the prices with them a bit more and set the salad at 2 copper coins and the soup and rabbit skewer at 4.
"Would you be willing to run my errands in the future?"
"It shouldn't be a problem and we said we'd help you set it up anyway. We'll come by here more often anyway, so we can bring you smaller things or accept orders. But of course it costs something."
"No problem, I expected that. Then I would ask you to bring a saw with you next time."
"Hmm, this won't be cheap. Anything made of metal is expensive. What do you need it for?"
"I can't make a lot of things myself, because I can't cut the wood well. We have an axe now, but creating smooth surfaces with it is very laborious."
"So that would probably give us better seats and tables... Then we'll pay in adavance for you. Consider it compensation for taking you by surprise. When I look at how much we ate, what we brought with us was probably not quite enough."
This marked another important step. I would finally charge money for my services and I found someone who would at least get me a few things. Not to forget, the first important delivery would be the saw, with which I could upgrade a lot of things and therefore even charge more money.
The next morning the group set off. They got up a little earlier than I thought, but that was probably because the urge to celebrate was big. Aron also had the wagon specially guarded outside during the night. So it wasn't as relaxing as the night before.
Now that that was over, I could start thinking about what to do with all the mana.
