Bruno brought the bodies of the mushroom men to Hilda's plain. She actually used some of them for her research. Much to the zombie's dismay. The rest were used as fertilizer for the mushroom farm or as a source of food for the fireflies. But even after that, there were still plenty of them left. After all, they were human-sized. So I decided to take the rest to the cooling plain. Friedrich wasn't happy that his cooling area was getting bigger, because he still had his punishment and therefore had to walk, but he had to go through it.
Paul was right and I didn't see Albert's group for a whole week. When I finally saw them again, they had become noticeably thinner and you could still see scratches in places. Apparently it wasn't a harmless punishment that they had received. When I asked them about it, they always avoided me. To give them some time, I let them work the field again and only later did they start to procure meat again. After I felt that they had recovered, I allowed Hilda to continue her forays. Even without my warning, they would not go any deeper into the forest.
After a few days, we reached the next milestone in the house construction and Paul invited me to go on a tour together again. As I did last time, I extended the dungeon to be on the safe side so that no invisible wall would stop me. This time it was also easier because I could do it on my evening walk and had the floor plan clearly in front of me. Not like the time when I had to guess in the cave how the house was structured.
"So, Marco, are you ready to take the stairs to the first floor?"
"Of course, Paul, I'm excited to see what it looks like."
We went upstairs together.
"The small room is the staircase access on the one hand and on the other hand you can also use a ladder to reach the attic from here. The door on the wall of the house there leads to the outhouse. As you requested, we didn't leave it accessible downstairs like we usually do, but walled it in, so to speak."
Paul had already told me about the plans back then, and normally you would leave the feces accessible from outside so that they could be transported away if necessary. However, I planned to expand the dungeon in that direction and simply absorb it as before. Therefore, I didn't need access, and before I had a potential point of attack, I asked him to just wall it in completely.
"Opposite the toilet is the actual hallway to the individual rooms. Two of the rooms have their entrance already in this small room, so still outside the hallway. As you can see, that leaves a lot of space. Some people put a shelf here, for example for laundry or other things. But remember that you have free access here. So you shouldn't keep anything valuable openly.
Let's take a quick look at one of the rooms. There isn't too much space in them, but it's not about staying there permanently either. There will be a bed in every corner of the room and a table with chairs in the middle. This means that a squad of four people can comfortably relax despite the limited space. A total of eight rooms will be set up like this. Five are for guests, one for your permanently stationed group and the remaining two for you.
That leaves three larger rooms that are about twice as big as a small room. One room in the southeast is intended as a consultation room. Your stationary squad will also use it as living space, but not exclusively. Opposite that is your office as leader, where you can also store important documents. I think that's better than in a damp cave and you also have a good view of the edge of the forest. Next to that, as I said, are two small rooms for you and then comes the last room, which is the infirmary.
I would advise you to use the small room next to the meeting room for your permanent group, then the areas are not mixed up. Do you have any questions?"
"Is it really not a problem if we have the infirmary on the first floor?"
"The stairs may be an obstacle, but remember that you are only offering them as an additional service. I think with Bruno, transport shouldn't be a problem."
"The room isn't too big either, is it?"
"As I said, you have living space for five guest squads, then there's your permanent one and your own residents. I think that with around 30 people, eight beds are probably too few rather than too many. If you really have more people to treat, you should isolate those who are contagious here and treat the rest in their own beds."
"That's true, if there's another goblin hunt like the last one, there could be a lot of injuries. So I should be able to cover accommodation, supplies, healing and camp for adventurers with that. I'd say that's all fine for me."
"Very good. Then we'll finish the rest of the work and then you'll finally be rid of us. It seems we'll make it before winter sets in after all. We were afraid we would have to come back before the great spring cleanup."
"Sounds like it will be finished soon."
"Don't be fooled, it will probably take another month. However, we have completed the most important work and since you have no further requests for adjustments, I can be sure that no matter how far we get, we can leave you alone in the winter with peace of mind."
"I think I will have to spend the whole winter recovering from the exertions."
"Haha, don't give up in the final stages. You still have a lot to learn and don't forget that you have to pass a test at the end. Otherwise I will send you a huge pile of material that you have to work through in the winter."
"Not that, I need a break too."
"Then keep working hard. Ah, you can use Bruno again for your own preparations. The heavy work is finished and the craftsmen want to get rid of him again."
"I guess he can start on the next construction project then."
"Oh? Have you already set your sights on a new goal?"
