"Why did you want to come back here again?" I asked as Emmaline pulled me by the hand, leading me to a familiar old building, "wait, there are guards there."

I halted my movements, tightening my hold on her hand to stop her too as I pointed with my free hand at the gate, two guards standing there with guns in their hands.

"Don't mind them," she waved a hand and started moving again. I felt a lump form in my throat as we walked closer, grabbing the guards' attention. I was about to pull her to me and actually run away from their sight when suddenly they just... dropped to the ground, unmoving, their guns falling to the ground with an echoing thud.

"What the hell?" I frowned and looked at Emmaline, seeing her eyes narrowed to where they fell before she blinked, looking up at me with a soft smile, my expression didn't waver though, "what just happened?"

"I thought about making them sleep, but I don't know if my hold on their mind would drop if I were away from them," she bent down and took one of the guns, loading it before tucking it in her pocket and shrugged, "I don't want to worry about them waking up, so I just killed them."

"Killed them?" I snapped, jerking my head back slightly and blinking fast with a shake of my head.

"Mhm," she hummed underneath her breath, studying whatever was behind this gate, like she was planning something. But my mind was still elsewhere.

"What the hell are you talking about?"

That earned me a sigh, seeing her roll her eyes and look back at me with a blank expression, "I manipulated them into thinking they can't breathe until they actually couldn't. Think of it as a heart attack or whatever."

Before I could say anything, she grabbed ahold of my hand again, walking both of us inside. I stole a glance over my shoulder, still comprehending what just happened.

"We're here," her soft voice snapped me back to reality, looking down at her as she let go of my hand, unlocking a metal door before pushing it open, motioning for me to follow.

"What are we doing here?" I asked, slowly stepping inside, wary eyes looking around the dark room until my gaze landed on two men that I couldn't really make up their features, a mix of confusion and unease creeping into my gut. The dim light cast long shadows, obscuring their faces but not their presence. They were tied to the wall, motionless, their heads hanging low as if unconscious or worse.

I looked over at Emmaline tilting her head before narrowing her eyes at them. Lowering my eyebrows, I followed her gaze, seeing the two men slowly moving their heads, a low groaning sound escaping them.

"I was going to shoot them," Emmaline sighed, bringing my attention back to her, "but then I thought of something else."

"What?"
