In a life like this, we fight for what we want, how we want it, the way we want it. And we shouldn't give up, because if we do, no one else will try.
She was having her first class, wrestling this morning and she felt a bit nervous because, boys did wrestling not girls and she was scared that the teacher was going to deny her the class. She combed her hair briefly. "Sophie, do you think I look too girlish?", Moon asked, worriedly.
Sophie walked over to her and looked in the mirror. "No, you look just like you", Sophie tickled her chin and smiled. And the bell rung.
"It's time, I would learn how to be a princess' consort and you are going for wrestling, I am so excited", Sophie quickly picked a few books and Moon tidied up her skirt as they made their way out of the room. The crowd was way too much and Moon was feeling claustrophobic. She felt Sophie tighten her hold on her wrist. "It's fine, you're with me, I'll take you to your class", Sophie smiled.
"Thanks", what would she ever do without Sophie? They got to the wrestling class and Sophie bid her farewell.
"See you after class", Sophie jumped away cheerfully. Moon entered the class, luckily, she was the first person to be in the class. She looked at the books on karate and taekwondo, grazed her fingers against the shiny golden trophies. She would win one too one day, one day.
"Hey, what's a girl doing in wrestling class?", Moon turned and saw two boys laughing and snickering at her, she thought it better to ignore them. "She's even the Dark Princess, I hope she doesn't steal our minds with some weird spells", more laughter, more footsteps. Moon did not turn. "Isn't it weird, I can't be doing karate with a girl, we have too tell Master Kai", more laughter. Moon was trying to hold it all in. Using their powers was forbidden in school or she would have disintegrated this idiots into pieces.
She felt someone touch her shoulder and she turned, screaming, "WHAT DO YOU WANT???!!!", It was the golden guy from yesterday looking at her and she was getting mesmerized again. She bit her tongue and the pain brought her back to her senses. "Take your hands off me", she lifted his hands off from her shoulders.
"Hey, how dare you speak to the prince like that? His magnificence is more than yours, princess. So be mindful of how you touch him, stupid", an attractive boy had joined him. "Stop, Justin you didn't have to talk to her that way", he said calmly.
"And I wonder why they say you're weak, don't you know her father might be using her as a bait to trap you, maybe she has cast an enchanting spell on you", Justin said and suddenly, it hit Moon like a shockwave. The golden curls. The golden eyes. The way the plants bloomed under his touch. His charming summer smile. She had been talking to Prince Sun of the Good kingdom, the son of her father's sworn enemy. She felt so stupid, he had charmed her, she had fallen for his sweet voice.
"How dare you?!", Moon growled but before he had a chance to respond, the master walked in. It wasn't like she was going to give him a chance to respond anyway. They were over, over what exactly? she asked herself, she was s so lost in her thoughts she didn't hear the master calling her until he tapped her on her back which felt like a push and nearly sent he rto the floor.
"Your Highness, if I may, please find a partner to wrestle with, I want to see who you would wrestle with to win", he had a mocking glint in his eyes. The teacher was teasing her, he was telling her that wrestling was not meant for girls, he was telling her that she should quit, but well he did not know her because she was Moon and she never quit anything in her life. Never!
"Fine", Moon growled and matched his glare, everyone was already partnered and she could feel Master Kai staring at her. She did not have anyone to partner with.
"Well then, will you partner with me, little princess", Master Kai was behind her an d his voice made her blood boil with anger. "Okay", and Moon moved to fighting stance. "I like your stance, princess", the master said, also moving into fighting stance. They started parrying blows, feinting and pushing in any direction. Moon was aggressive and impatient but the master was quick, agile and intelligent. Soon, Moon's energy was expended and she had not won a single round against her mater, he had not even broken a sweat.
"Punch me, princess, punch me as hard as you can, show me what you can do with those princess fingers", Moon felt angry hearing those words but she was way too weak to lift a finger but even then, she started punching his chest, his stomach and it felt as though she was punching a brick wall. Her knuckles began to bleed and her hair scattered all over her face. Tears began to drop from her face slowly, she could hear the boys in the class chuckling and the master stopped her and held up her chin to look at him.
"I am ready to punch you back, princess. Are you ready?", his breath was cold and Moon could feel her spine shiver. If she backed out, she would never win this class and if she allowed him to punch her, the worst that she blacked out and ended up with a swollen eye which could heal with jut a wave of her hand. Moon did not care. She nodded yes and the master smiled, ready to raise up his arms to hit her. She closed her eyes, bracing for the impact.
"No, wait!", it was the Summer Prince, what did he want to do? Mock her, perhaps. "Please, wait, do not hit her, hit me instead, she is just a girl", he said and Moon raised her hands to slap him. "How dare you call me a girl, I am not a girl, I am an human being with a soul, I can do anything, I can do anything. Don't you ever pigeonhole me, ever again", Moon turned away from Sun and faced the master. Justin had rushed to Sun's side. "Well then, get on with it", Moon glared at the master but the master smiled coyly.
"Now, I am ready to pick your representatives for wrestling class, boys and girl", he said pointedly in her direction. All of then walked closer to him, barreling Moon out of the way. She knew she could never be picked, she should have gone when she had the chance, she was just going to keep humiliating herself. But of course, her stubbornness would not let her back down. She was going to show them how far she could go, most importantly herself.
"The representative is Princess Moon and her assistant is Prince Sun", they all gasped and turned to Moon. Moon too was surprised but she took advantage of their surprise and smiled coyly. "Thank you, master. it's an honor to be picked as the representative of this class", Sun had already bowed in greeting, of course he would have learnt something about manners. She was just a spoilt child. She bowed too, copying him. The bell rung, their class was over.
When the others had gone, she and Sun waited behind. "I am sorry", Moon rolled up the mat, she was not really the type who loved to say sorry and she couldn't get why she was telling him sorry, he deserved that slap, didn't he?
"You don't need to say that, I deserved it, I shouldn't have treated you any differently from how I would normally treat my fellow boys", Sun smiled at her, putting the boxes higher up where her arms couldn't reach. His arms were lithe and Moon teared her eyes away to avoid blushing again.
"What is it with you apologizing for what you did not do, it's very annoying", Moon hissed, trying to crush any warm feelings she had for the son of her father's enemy and replace it with hatred instead. "Do you want me to accept your apology or not?", Moon could see something serious in his eyes, it was as though his the gold in his eyes was burning too bright that it was already orange but then, it disappeared as soon she saw it that she thought she had imagined it.
"I almost forgot", Moon exclaimed, already walking out. Sophie must be waiting for her by now. "You'll arrange the rest, won't you?", Moon asked him with the cute faces she had conjure when trying to beg her parents.
"Yes", he smiled and she knew he thought her cute face was amusing. Stupid! . And of course, Sophie was waiting for her in front of her class but not angrily, chatting with her friends. As soon as Sophie sighted her, she bid them farewell and went to Moon.
"What happened to your knuckles?", Sophie was lookin at her hands. Moon grazed her finger over the wound and they healed. "So, how was your class, looks like you made some friends", Moon changed the subject.
"It was fun and trust me, I'll ask you about what happened later but I really have to talk about her teacher, Mistress Jane, she's so elegant", Sophie rambled on dreamily.
Of course, Classic Sophie!
