Adriana reclined against the sofa by her bedroom window, a set of headphones snugly in place, connected to a cassette tape. The curtain framing the window was always drawn open, save for when she needed privacy. Engrossed in her music, she jotted down some musical notes, indulging in her small hobby. Her cat slept at the end of her legs, when it would move and stretch, it made Adriana grin.
However, her peaceful moment was interrupted when she noticed Wednesday entering his room, wearing a faintly annoyed expression.
It was a known fact that when Wednesday was in a foul mood, a unique gloominess seemed to surround everything around him, perhaps an inherited trait from the Addams family. Adriana waited for him to acknowledge her presence, and when he finally did, she offered a smile that seemed to momentarily ease his heart, though he quickly masked his reaction, not wanting to show any vulnerability to the world.
As Wednesday approached his window and leaned against it with crossed arms. He has both his eyebrows raised in a questioning manner. Adriana's smile widened, sensing an opportunity for conversation—the first since their encounter in the school cafeteria. Leaning forward slightly, to open a gap between the windows, she accidentally dislodged her headphones, causing Wednesday to catch a snippet of her music. It wasn't his usual taste, but it was bearable.
"Something on your mind?" Adriana quipped sarcastically, breaking the ice. "I always pictured the Addams family as a bunch of rainbow and sunshine enthusiasts."
Wednesday fought back a ghost of a smile at her remark. "No, my father is in a somber mood because of Uncle Fester's misfortune. I don't mind the melancholy atmosphere, but there's a limit to how bothersome it can become."
Adriana chuckled at Wednesday's response, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "Ah, the Addams family drama," she teased, her tone laced with a hint of flirtation. "Sounds like quite the spectacle. I would love to join the next time."
Wednesday's lips quirked in a wry smile, his gaze lingering on Adriana for a moment longer than necessary. "You have no idea," he replied dryly, his voice carrying a hint of dark humor. "But it's nothing we can't handle."
Adriana leaned in closer, her playful demeanor belying the genuine curiosity in her eyes. "Well, if you ever need a break from the gloom and doom, you know where to find me," she said, playfully flirty, somehow having the confidence to do so, a coy smile playing at her lips.
Wednesday's expression softened slightly at her words, a flicker of something resembling warmth glinting in his eyes. "I'll keep that in mind," he murmured, his tone more subdued than usual. Just as the moment between Adriana and Wednesday seemed to linger in the air, a voice interrupted from downstairs, breaking the spell.
"Adriana, dinner's ready!" Tom's voice called out, echoing through the house.
Adriana glanced towards the door, torn between staying and continuing her conversation with Wednesday, and obeying her father's call. With a reluctant sigh, she turned back to Wednesday, offering him a small smile. "Duty calls," she said, her voice tinged with disappointment but keeping her playful tone.
Wednesday nodded in understanding, his gaze following her as she made her way towards the door. "Until next time," he said softly, his words carrying a weight of unspoken meaning. He never left his eyes on her back, up until the last strand of her hair left the room.
