My head's already spinning from the liquor I've consumed. Everything in me is caving in. First, I learned about my dad's affair with his secretary. Then, we lost our most crucial game. Now, Myla has disappeared out of nowhere.

The noise was even more nauseating. The smell of cigarettes was everywhere, and different lights danced in the dark as the students seemed to lose their inhibitions.

I recognized my friends whispering from a distance, and they were headed towards me.

"Since when do you smoke?"

Kyle said this as they were all looking at me in shock.

"Just now."

I plainly answered, raising one of my brows and giving them an upside-down smile.

"You know we can still snatch the remaining championship, right?"

Dylan said this as he sat next to me, taking the cigarette from my hand and puffing it.

"I absolutely know that. That's actually the least of my problems."

I leaned my back on the couch, relaxing my shoulders.

"What's with all the sulking, then?"

Alec appeared from behind.

"You're late. Again."

Myco said this, putting emphasis on "again."

"Chill, bro. It's not like we're getting paid to arrive early here."

Alec said this as he threw his hands in the air and fixed himself on the vacant spot across from us.

"Well, I've heard," he paused. All our eyes are on him.

"Myla's been spotted going out with Matthew for some time now."

Now their gazes turned to me.

"You two broke up?"

Kyle asked, all worried.

"Not technically. We just stopped talking, and that's it."

I shrugged off.

"But with what Alec had already said, maybe that just explains all of it."

I stood up from where I was seated and headed for the drinks.

"I have so many reasons to drink right now."

I muttered as I stared at the red cups laid in front of me.

I was just busy chugging down the liquor and getting hyped by the music when somebody caught my attention.

It was a girl. Must be the same age as mine. Her brown hair was shoulder-length, and she looked so innocent. More lost, actually.

"Enjoying yourself too much? What do we have here?"

Dylan put his arms around my neck and looked in the same direction I was looking.

"Jessica Galanza, huh?"

My world literally stopped staring at her while she's so clueless about what's going on.

"I've heard she's got a crush on you since we were in high school. Could you imagine that?"

I can't even clearly hear what he was saying because my heart's been pounding so loud.

"You think she's the one for you?"

I know the liquor's already kicking in with my friend's system. He can't even walk straight.

"Hey, bros!"

He called out to our friends.

"Our friend here must have had love at first sight."

"Shut up, Dylan!"

I removed his arms from me and created some distance.

"What are you talking about? You're drunk."

Our friends laughed at us, giving me a suspicious gaze.

"Well, if you're not, I dare you to make a move on her and date her."

Myco playfully said.

"Come on, stop being a sulky puppy. It doesn't look good on you."

Alec added and pushed me in the girl's direction.

My knees were trembling for no reason. I've never been like this to other girls, but this girl seems to make me fold.

"Aren't you going to drink that?"

I softly asked her, but I still seemed to startle her. She slowly turned her head and looked up at me.

"I'm Elijah."

Our eyes met, but she immediately handed over her cup and ran away.

I was left frozen at my spot, just plainly confused by what just happened.

"You're too fine to scare off a little girl. What did you do?"

Kyle approached me while I was still recovering.

"This is all your fault."

I directed my gaze toward my friends.

"Chill, bro. That girl is head over heels in love with you for what? Like, four or five years already? She's going to come around."

Alec said this as he was casually making out with some strangers.

I spent the rest of the night drinking and smoking. I somehow managed to take my mind off the things I was running away from, but it is now wandering to the girl I met earlier.

Her soft gaze and how timid she was made her seem so innocent. I'm going to look for her not because of my friends' stupid dare but because I genuinely want to know her.

It's almost dawn, and the noise is already fading, as is my consciousness.

God, I wish I didn't have to go back to our home and witness how my dad would act so sweetly towards my mom while secretly cheating on her. I don't think I will be able to control myself.
