I woke up feeling like every bone in my body was crushed. Still, I made it out alive.
I noticed Jessica sleeping beside my bed while holding my hand. I did everything to withdraw my hand from her, but I really can't move.
"What are you doing here?"
I coldly asked when she woke up.
"I thought I was going to lose you."
She sobbed on my chest.
"Fuck, let go of me. My body's already gone through enough crushing."
I grunted as I genuinely felt a pain I've never felt in my entire life. It felt like it even reached my soul.
Jessica's now in tears while looking at me, but she didn't let go of my hand.
We remained silent for a time when the door suddenly swung open. It was my mom, Myla, and Elysse.
They stood there frozen, just looking at each other. Whether they're shocked by how I terribly looked or shocked by each other's presence.
I felt Jessica's grip tighten on my hand as her eyes landed on Elysse. Well, our daughter's a spitting image of her.
She looked at me as if she were asking if she could approach her, but my eyes displayed so much protest. I know she was trying so hard to restrain herself from hugging our daughter, so she suddenly walked out.
"What is she doing here?"
Myla mouthed as mom was hugging me.
Elysse was just looking at me, completely puzzled.
"Will Kuya be alright?"
I heard her ask Myla as she picked her up.
"Of course he will be. He just needs some rest, and he'll surely be okay."
Myla assured my daughter.
"Who's the girl earlier?"
She curiously asked, and we just looked at each other.
"Uhm, baby. Kuya needs to get some rest, okay? We'll just go back later."
Elysse immediately knodded but she hugged and kissed me before leaving.
"Get well soon, please, Kuya. I love you."
I just smiled at her. My sweet girl.
I was about to close my eyes when I saw my mom calmly talking to Jessica before she went back inside.
"So, your mom and I had a talk."
She nervously started as she tried to avoid looking into my eyes.
"And we've agreed for me and Justin to move into your house so I can help take care of you."
She said this, hoping it would lighten up the atmosphere, but it didn't.
"You don't have to do that."
I coldly replied to her, sounding so uninterested.
"Don't you want to know our son?"
She now shifted her gaze to me.
"He can come visit from time to time since I still can't drive in this state, but you don't have to move in."
I closed my eyes to avoid further discussion with her.
"Now, if I may get some sleep."
I saw pain in Jessica's expression, but she still fixed my pillows and held my hand.
I also felt a searing pain in my heart as I saw her rest her head on my bed as she silently cried.
I know I should be happy, right? Getting her back and have the chance to start a new life with her and our kids, but after hearing what she said and her reasons for leaving me, I don't think I'll be able to find within me the forgiveness I should be giving both of us.I stayed in the hospital for a week, and Jessica never left my side. She said Justin, our son, was looked after by Benedict and Dean. I seldom talked to her in that one week, but she still tried her best to be cheerful with me. I would also catch her crying while looking at me from time to time. Even hugging and kissing me every time she thinks I've already fallen asleep. So much for not wanting to see me ever again.
We are now on the way home, and again, it was a silent drive in Jessica's presence. She was so gentle and attentive to my needs, although I'm already getting better.
I was about to get out of the car when she told me she needed to change my bandages because the blood was starting to show. I didn't mind as usual, but what bothered me was the way she looked at my face as if trying to memorize it.
"Is it done?"
I asked her so she would break eye contact, and she just nodded at me.
She slowly helped me to the house, and just as we were at the door, confetti poppers echoed in our living room, and a canvas cloth saying, "Welcome home, Elijah!" was prepared by my friends and family. I somehow smiled at the thoughts and efforts they've made, but then something caught most of my attention.
It was a boy, looking exactly like me, and he ran towards me.
"Daddy!"
The boy was so excited to hug me, and hearing his voice and hearing him call me Daddy for the first time made me burst into tears.
Elysse, too, ran up to me to hug me.
"I know."
My smart girl mouthed, and I hugged both of them tightly. I also saw Jessica crying in the corner of my eyes.
"Thank you."
I mouthed it to Dean and Benedict, and they just smiled.
I never thought of this day. Reuniting with Jessica and our twins, although we haven't really spoken since that confrontation.
I know she's been trying, but I think I just need more time.
