Later that night, I began to get ready. I brushed my long, blonde, wavy hair and began to do my makeup. Then, there was a knock at the door.

"Come in!" I said, concentrating on applying my eyeliner. It was papa.

"Hi Nikki." He smiled.

"Hey papa." I smiled.

"So, uh, poker, eh? Where ya goin' to play?" He asked nervously.

"Butchy's. Why?" I asked.

"That's Mason's boy, right? He lives in Brooklyn?" He leaned against my dresser.

"Yeah. Why?" I asked, now applying my blush.

"Well, Brooklyn ain't the safest place to be at night. I just want ya to be safe. Here." He hands me a pocketknife.

"Papa..." He cuts me off.

"I know, but I just want ya to be safe." He smiles.

"Okay, and if it makes ya feel any better, I'm walkin' with Cricket and Ace." I smile.

"Ace? Never heard of 'em." He said suspiciously.

"Oh, he's kinda new." I smile innocently.

"Oh, well, have fun. Don't be too late." He replies, beginning to leave.

"I'll try not to..." I laugh. He shakes his head and closes the door on his way out.

I walk over to my closet and look at my dresses. What should I wear?

All of the sudden, my window opens. I jump.

"Oops, did I scare ya?" Cricket asks innocently.

"Yeah, just a bit." I laugh.

"Oh, Ace is with me." She points behind her.

"Oh. You guys can come in, by the way. It's freezin' outside." I say politely.

Cricket crawls in and immediately takes off her coat. Ace follows her. My heart begins to beat 10 times faster.

"Hi." I say quietly.

"Hey." He nods. I walk over to my window and shut it.

"Uh, there's some blankets under my bed. I'll be ready in a few minutes." I quickly walk into my closet and close the door. My closet wasn't tiny, but I could walk around a little in it.

I began to scan my dresses, trying to find the perfect one. Finally, I saw it. I was a deep blue color, and had lace on the edges of the seam. I put it on, but realized it had to be zipped up.

I peeked my head out,"Cricket? Can us zip me up?"

She nodded and walked in. She zipped me up and I told her she could borrow one of my dresses. She looked through them all, and finally found the one she liked. It was red, and had jewels sewed into the skirt part. We finished get ready and looked at each other.

"Let's go!" I squealed. Cricket opened the door and walked out first, I followed. Ace's jaw dropped. We both curtsied.

"Let's go." I whispered. Cricket and I walked to my bedroom door. Ace knew what he was supposed to do. We went downstairs, and Ace went out the window.

My parents would soak me if they knew a boy was in my bedroom.

Cricket and I were in the kitchen, sayin' goodbye to my parents. Ace knocked at the door.

"It's probably Ace." I said casually.
I opened the door and invited him in.

"Mom, papa, this is Ace. Ace, this is my ma Alexia and my papa, Spot Conlon." I said.

"Nice to meet ya. I've heard lots about ya." Ace said, shaking my parents hands.

We said goodbye and left, towards Butchy's.

*Alexia's POV

"He seems nice. I think Nikki likes' em." I told Spot. He seemed tense.
"What's wrong?"

"I don't know. She growin' up too fast." He signed.

"I know." I sighed.

He cupped my face in his hand and kissed me softly on the lips.

"I love ya." He said.

"I love ya too." I kissed him again and we finished the dinner I had made.
