The boy and I climbed up the fire escape and we got up on the roof.

I laid down and stared at the stars, as did he.

"So, uh..." I began.

"Grant." He said.

"Grant. Where did ya say Ace lived?" I asked.

He sighed, "I'll show ya."

He grabbed my hand and we climbed down to the street.

"This way." We turned left and went about five blocks down 'til we stopped at a big, white house.

"He lives here? Are ya sure?" I asked him.

"Yeah, come on." He grabbed my hand again and we went to the backyard.

He pointed to the glass door and I saw Ace and Red. He twirled 'er around and then kissed 'er. My heart dropped.

Did he ever even love me at all?

A tear streamed down my face and I squeezed Grant's hand.

"Hey, hey, hey. It's okay." He held me close and my head was on his chest.

"Let's go." I said numbly.

We walked out of the yard, but went in the opposite direction of the lodging house.

"The house is this way." I pointed.

"I have a surprise for ya." He pulsed out my papa's whiskey, the one I packed.

"Where'd ya get that?" I asked.

"Ya bag. I figured ya might want it." He said. I grabbed the bottle out of his hand, unscrewed the lid, a took a big gulp.

We continued to walk, and I continued drinkin'.

After a while, I couldn't walk straight. I tripped on the curb and luckily, Grant caught me.

His right hand supported my waist and and his left hand supported my head.

"Ya don't deserve a scabber like Ace. You're beautiful. I don't know why he'd ever leave ya."

He looked into my eyes and I looked into his. His face inched closer to mine and...

TIME SKIP

The next mornin', I woke up to the sound of boys yellin' and singin'.

Just like Brooklyn.

"Mornin' sleepy head." Grant said, loudly.

"Ow, I have such a headache." I said. He laughed at my comment.
"Well, I have papes to sell, but you're welcome to come with me." He said.

"Maybe later." I groaned. He laughed one last time and kissed my hand.

Once the boys left, I opened my eyes again.

"What was that all about?" Cricket said, Dutchy at 'er side.

"Nothin'. Why do ya ask?" I said.

"Ya both got to bed pretty late. Where were ya?" She asked.

"He took me to see Ace." I said, sadly.

"And..?" She squealed.

"He was kissin' Red...again."

"Oh. Continue."

I groaned, "I drank some whiskey to take the edge off and I got a little drunk. No big deal." I said.

"Ya were drunk and ya were with..."

"Grant." I said.

"Grant. And did somethin' happen?" She raised an eyebrow.

"No. 'Course not." I said, slowly gettin' out of the bed.

"Are ya sure 'bout that?" She asked.

"Yeah." I walked into the bathroom.

FLASHBACK

Grant looked into my eyes and I looked into his. He leaned in and began to kiss me. I quickly stopped him.

"I may be drunk, but I know how I feel. I like Ace." I told 'em.

"He doesn't deserve ya." He said.

"Oh and ya do?" I said playfully.

"Ya wanna bet?" He began tickling my sides and I laughed uncontrollably. I ran into the alley and found myself at a dead end.

I tried to run around Grant, but he grabbed my waist. We began laughing and I turned around to face him.

"I HAVE THE BEST IDEA!" I exclaimed.

"What would that be?" Grant giggled.

"Make Ace jealous!" I but my hand on the back of Grant's neck and crashed my lips on his. His lips were soft and warm. At first he seemed surprised, but then kissed back.

"Guess who made Acey mad?!" I laughed, nearly walking into the wall.

"You're drunk, let's go." Grant scooped me up in his arms and carried me to the lodging house.
