Ace walked me to the lodging house that night. He missed my cheek and I went inside.
"Hey Nikki. How's Acey doin?" Grant said sarcastically.
"Give it up, Grant. I'm not into ya." I said, taking my jacket off.
I looked around for Cricket and Dutchy, but couldn't find them anywhere.
"Ey, Snipeshooter. Ya seen Cricket or Dutchy?"
He laughed, "Yeah, just go out the back door."
"Okay..." I said nervously.
I walked out the back door and saw Dutchy and Cricket kissing!
I squealed from excitement."Oh my gosh, ya guys!" I smiled at them.
They stepped away from each other, hand in hand.
"Congrats!" I hugged them tightly and eventually, they hugged back.
NEXT DAY
I got a call from mama and she said that Ace was allowed to stay with us. I ran to tell Ace.
"Ace! Ace!"
"Ey Princess." Ace grabbed my waist and kissed me quickly.
"Come on, we got a train to catch." I smiled, holding his hand.
"They said yeah?!" He smiled.
"Yes. They said yes!" I smiled. Ace picked me up and spun me around.
"Come on." I said.
He gladly followed. We stopped at the newsie house and grabbed our bags and said our goodbyes.
We hopped on the train to Brooklyn.
Once we got off the train, I walked with Ace to our flat. Papa opened the door and immediately began tellin' Ace the rules.
"Ya will be sleepin' on the couch in the living room and will not go into Nikki's room, Nikki, keep ya door open. I expect 5 cents each week for your stay, just like the lodgin' house. I also want ya to-"
"Papa! I think he's got it." I said.
"Thanks again, Mr. Conlon, sir." Ace said.
Papa gave him his terrifying glare, making Ace nervous. Thankfully, Mama came out, causin' Papa to stop glarin'.
"Nikki, why don't ya get the couch ready for Ace. I gotta talk to ya father."
"Okay, thanks Mama." I got a blanket and pillow from the couch and began helpin' Ace set up.
*Alexia's POV
"Spot..." I asked.
I know he's mad at me for saying yes without askin' 'em but I know he'd say no.
"Lex, I can't believe ya didn't ask me." He sighed.
"I know, but what do ya think ya would've said? He needed a place to stay."
"With our daughter in the next room? Lex, he killed his father!"
"I know, but it was to protect somebody!" I yelled.
"Fine, he can stay." Spot gave up. He knew he wouldn't win the argument.
All of the sudden, a large amount of water hit the ground.
"Spot! My water just broke."
