"Come on, Headphones. Just pick up the phone and answer him back," she muttered, trying but failing to motivate herself to press the call button.
It was Monday night, Headphones was in her room, sitting on her bed while staring down at her phone. After her talk with Half-rim, Headphones had been going over the fictional conversation with Skull in her head so she wouldn't freeze up when she called. It didn't do much to help. She had been sitting there for a good seven minutes.
"Should I just text him? But, calling is more efficient." Headphones thought, her hand clamping around her phone, her palm beginning to sweat.
"Headphones!"
On instinct, Headphones closed out her phone as Bobblehat barged in, quickly closing the door behind her. As Bobbles plopped on her bed, Headphones noticed her friend's signature smile was a bit bigger than usual and she was happily swinging her legs.
"You won't believe what I found in my locker!" Bobble beamed, holding up a pale pink envelope with a pale blue heart sticker acting as a seal.
Headphone's eyes widened when she saw the letter. She had watched plenty of rom-coms to know what this met. Her best friend had a secret admirer!
"Aw, looks like someone's popular!" Headphones smiled, teasingly nudging her friend's shoulder. "So, what does it say?"
"It says, 'Dear Bobbles, the moment I met you, everything just feels brighter for me. Although we had a rocky start back then, every time I look back on our battle, I blush like an idiot and can't stop smiling. You have the sweetest, most loving heart I have ever known. I can't always explain my feelings the way I want you to understand them. Sometimes when we talk, so many beautiful and intense feelings flow in and out of my soul for you, yet the words I say then never seem to allow those feelings to touch you.' -From your secret admirer." Bobble's smile grew as she finished reading. A light blush dusted her cheeks.
Headphones sat there in aw. She was stunned. The letter was so romantic and passionate in telling Bobbles how much she met to this admirer. This brought up the big question.
"Who do you think this is from?" Bobbles asked before Headphones could ask her the same question.
"I don't know," Headphones tilted her head in thought. "They mentioned 'having a rocky start', but we've had that with a good portion of the teams we've gone up against."
"Yeah," Bobbles sighed, folding the paper and putting it back in the envelope. "Still, I can't wait to meet them!"
Headphones smiled at her friend. She was happy for her friend, but a slight pang of sadness welled inside her. How she wished she could go back to a time before this blood moon accident happened. Headphones was already dealing with these confusing feelings toward Skull, but after that "session" with him, it only fueled the fire.
Besides, tomorrow was Tuesday, which meant having to go in to have their meeting with Norman. She couldn't avoid Skull there, and Headphones knew she couldn't keep doing this forever. They needed to talk this over. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't keep the thoughts away that made her stomach twist and turn into butterflies.
"So, have you gotten close to anyone?" Bobbles asked with a cheery smile.
"Wh-What!?" Headphones stuttered, her face turning a light shade of blue.
"C'mon, Headphones, I've seen how Skull and Half-rim look at you. Wouldn't be surprised if one of them tried asking you out."
"Well, I guess Skull and I have been spending more time together." Headphone's eyes were bouncing around, trying not to make eye contact with Bobbles, who gave her a big cheeky grin.
