Later that night, after a light dinner filled with cautious conversation, Y/N found herself restless. Unable to sleep, she wandered into the kitchen, hoping a snack might help. To her surprise, she found JK there as well, rummaging through the refrigerator.
"Couldn't sleep?" he asked, glancing up with a faint smile.
"Yeah," Y/N replied, a little awkwardly. "You too?"
JK nodded. "Yeah. I was just thinking of getting a snack. Want to join me?"
"Sure," Y/N said, feeling a flicker of curiosity. "What do you usually have for a midnight snack?"
JK grinned, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Well, I have this weird habit of mixing peanut butter with pickles. It's surprisingly good. Want to try?"
Y/N laughed, the sound genuine and light. "That sounds bizarre, but I'll give it a shot."
They sat down at the kitchen table, sharing the unusual snack and laughing at each other's reactions. JK's eyes lit up as Y/N made a face at the first bite, then slowly nodded in approval.
"It's not bad," she admitted, surprising herself.
JK chuckled. "Told you. Got any weird food combos of your own?"
Y/N thought for a moment. "Well, I do like dipping fries in ice cream."
JK's eyes widened in mock horror. "That's just wrong," he teased.
Y/N laughed, the sound light and genuine. "Hey, don't knock it till you try it."
As they continued to share stories of their favorite strange snacks, the conversation began to flow more naturally. Y/N told JK about her love for dipping French fries in ice cream, which earned her a skeptical look and a laugh when he tried it and admitted it wasn't half bad.
"I used to think mixing chocolate and cheese was strange," JK confessed, a sheepish smile playing on his lips. "But it's actually one of my go-to snacks now."
Y/N raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Chocolate and cheese? That's a new one. Let's try it."
As they experimented with different combinations, their laughter echoed through the kitchen, breaking the silence that had once felt so oppressive. JK found himself relaxing, the guarded expression he often wore softening as he shared in these light-hearted moments.
"Do you remember the first time you tried a really strange food?" Y/N asked, her tone warm with curiosity.
JK nodded, his eyes distant from the memory. "Yeah, it was durian. The smell was awful, but the taste was something else. It took me a while to get used to it."
Y/N giggled, the sound melodic. "I've always been too scared to try durian. Maybe one day."
JK's gaze softened as he looked at her. "We could try it together sometime. It might be fun."
A comfortable silence settled between them as they enjoyed their snacks. Then, JK's expression grew serious. "By the way, how are your injuries? I meant to ask earlier, but we got caught up with everything else."
Y/N looked up, surprised by the concern in his voice. "Oh, they're healing well, thank you. The doctor said I should be fully recovered in a few weeks."
JK nodded, his eyes flicking away briefly. "Good to hear," he said nonchalantly. "Just don't push yourself too hard."
Y/N smiled softly, touched by his words even though he tried to downplay his concern. "hmm."
