I was awakened by the sound of my name being called. As I opened my eyes, I felt a pressure on my left shoulder. Turning to my left, I glimpsed a blurred image of the back of Carl's head.
"Alex wait" the voice said softly
As sleep began to envelop me once more, I turned and wrapped my arm around something, a sensation of warmness sweeping through me. As my eyelids started to droop, I heard my name called out again.
"Alex don't leave me" The voice said this time sounding sad
This made me open my eyes fully, and I saw Carl lying in front of me with my arm around him. I didn't move. I just sat there, listening to see if Carl would say anything else. After a few seconds, my mind began to wonder When did we fall asleep? Where are the adults? How long have we been asleep? My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Rick's voice.
"I'll go wake up the boys" Rick said as his voice grew closer
"Carl wake up" I wispier in his ear in a panic voice
"Alex?" He whispered back tiredly
Before I can reply, Carl starts to stir, so I shift my arm, sit up quickly just then Rick reached us, looking at me as I stand and stretch. Meanwhile, Carl begins to sit up, rubbing his eyes.
"Good you boys are awake" He said then turning to look at me "Alex you should get ready we are almost there"
I gave a slight nod to signal him, and he turned to walk back to the front, leaving Carl and me alone. As I reached down to pick up my bag and started to rummage through it, I could feel Carl's gaze on me. I grabbed 2 throwing knifes and 4 daggers and turned around with my eyes looking down.
"What's wrong?" I asked placing a dagger on the outside of my right thigh then doing it to my left thigh
"Did I do something wrong?" He asked nervously
"What do you mean?" I asked looking up at him
As he sat down, the RV came to a halt. It seemed like he wanted to say something, but instead, he got up and walked to the front, leaving me behind. I secured the two throwing knives around my arms and took a deep breath before walking to the front of the RV. Just in time, I saw Rick step out, followed by Lori, then Dale. Shane was walking behind Rick, with Glenn, Daryl, Jacqui, Mom, Dad, Carol, Sophia, Andrea, T-Dog, Carl, and finally, me trailing behind. As we approached the front doors, I glanced around and noticed the walkers, lifeless, scattered all around; the stench was overwhelming.
Lori beckoned Carl to her side to hold hands, then Lori positioned herself behind Jacqui, who was in the middle. Carol, holding Sophia's hand, followed behind Lori and Carl, while the rest of us formed an outer ring to ensure no walkers approached.
Rick got to the door first, pressed a button, and then attempted to open it, but it wouldn't budge. Shane right behind him then put his back against the door and tried to lift and it still wouldn't budge, and the sky was turning dark then Shane pounds on the door.
"There's nobody here" T-Dog said panting from the long jog
"Then why are these shutters down?" Rick asked turning around to face him
"Walkers!" Daryl screamed
"Oh!" Lori said
Then Carl let out a scream while Sophia began to cry. I drew my other two daggers and assumed a defensive stance, and then Daryl raised his crossbow and shot the walker in the head.
"You led us into a graveyard!" Daryl screamed as he turned around to face Rick
"He made a call" Shane said defending Rick
"It was the wrong damn call!" Daryl screamed while walking up to Rick
"Just shut up" Shane said walking over to Darly "You hear me? Just shut up, Shut up!" while pushing Daryl back
Then he turned around and said "Rick this is a dead end."
"Where do we go?" Carol asked
"Do you hear me?" Shane asked walking up to Rick "No blame"
"She right. We can't be here this close to the city after dark" Lori said looking at Rick and Shane while holding on to Carl.
I approached my parents slowly, seeking closeness as a sense of fear began to creep in. They noticed and came to meet me halfway, all the while keeping an eye out for walkers.
"Fort Benning, Rick. Still an option." Shane said while clocking his shotgun back
"On what? No food, no fuel. It's a hundred miles" Andrea said
"125. I checked the map" Glenn said
Forget Fort Benning, we need answers tonight, now." Lori said while looking between Rick and Shane
"We'll think of something" Rick said while trying to calm down Lori
"Come on let's go" Shane said while grabbing Ricks arm
"Let's get out of here." Daryl said
"Let's go" Shane said this time grabbing Lori's arm
"Please" Rick said as he stepped closer to the door
"Alright, everybody back to the cars. Come on move" Shane said
My parents and I kept looking back at Rick who was about to turn away from the doors. He stopped and was looking at the camera.
"The camera. It moved" Rick said
The group stopped and turned to look at him then to the camera. It didn't move but I saw it move as well.
"You imagined it." Dale said
"It moved" Rick and I spoke in unison.
"Rick, it is dead, man." Shane said as Rick walked closer to the camera "It's -- It'd an automated device, man" this time stepping close to Rick
"It's -- It's gears, okay?" Shane said this time standing next to Rick "They're just winding down. Now, come on, man." grabbing Rick by the arm and tried to led him away
As Rick is still trying to wait for the camera to move again "Man, look around this place. It's dead okay? It's dead." Shane said grabbing his shirt "You need to let it go Rick!"
Rick rips Shane's hands off his shirt and walked over to the doors and started to pound on them.
"Rick, there's nobody here!" Lori screamed
"I know you're in there!" Rick screamed at the camera "I know you can hear me!"
"Everybody get back to the cars now right now go!" Shane screamed while looking around
"Please, we're desperate. Please help us." Rick said to the camera "We have women, children, no food, hardly any gas left."
As Lori ran past me, I grabbed Carl and pulled him close to me. She runs up to Rick placing her hand on his chest.
"Rick. There's nobody here." She spoke
"We have nowhere else to go." Rick said stepping to the right "Please!"
He then pounds on the door. Shane then tells everyone else to keep their eyes open. It was getting darker and darker which then causes me to tense up because of that camp night.
" If you don't let us in, you're killing us!" Rick yelled into the camera as Lori attempted to seize him. Shane walked over, nudged Lori to begin walking, and then extended his right arm across Rick's chest.
As Shane starts to pull Rick away from the CDC door Rick said " You're killing us!". Shane was making progress of getting Rick away from the doors. Shane pushed Rick to the front of the group just then the doors open up leaving all of use to turn around and stare.
