I stood among the other children, watching as the adults carried more walkers to the already blazing pile and threw them into the fire. I glanced at Andrea, who was still holding Amy close. Tears began to well up in my eyes, even though I wasn't close to them, the scene was just too overwhelming. Carl took my hand, and as I turned to look at him, I saw that he was crying. So, I faced him and wrapped him in a hug I let him cry on my shoulder, which started to damp my shirt.
"Shhh, everything will be okay," I said, holding back tears.
""Promise me," he said, tears streaming down his face.
"I promise," I murmured, lowering my head to his shoulder to deepen the embrace between us.
"NO!" Glenn screamed, his voice laden with pain. "We bury our friends!"
T-Dog and Daryl moved the body to the right, where about four members of the group were located. I longed for the day to end, but not the embrace I had thought.
"Then show me" Jacqui said loud
This caused the entire group, including Carl and me, to turn their attention to her. I diverted my gaze towards my parents, only to see my mom smiling at me while Carl and I were hugging. Instinctively, I stepped back from Carl, interrupting the hug. Carl gave me a puzzled look, but before he could speak, we all redirected our focus to Jacqui, who was with Jim.
She walked away from him, saying "A walker got him." Then, turning her head towards the first person she saw, she declared, "A walker bit Jim.'"
As everyone began walking towards Jim, he instinctively stepped back while Jacqui blended into the crowd facing him. Turning to my parents, they signaled me to move to a specific angle, positioning all three of us in a triangular formation around Jim, ensuring he had no route for escape.
"Show it to us," Daryl demanded, hoisting a pickaxe onto his shoulder as he took a few steps toward Jim.
Jim whirled around, seized a shovel, and brandished it defensively towards the group, causing some members to stiffen as Shane, Rick, and Daryl began shouting at Jim to drop it. I slid the dagger that was concealed beneath my right sleeve into my right hand. Suddenly, T-Dog dashed behind Jim, grabbed his arm, and forced him back, causing Jim to drop the shovel. Then Daryl hurried over and lifted his shirt, revealing a bite mark on his abdomen.
"I'm okay," Jim repeated nine times.
As everyone began to lower their heads, I remained standing, silently observing Jim with an expression of sorrow. Then the grownups went into a circle to talk about what to do with Jim now that he was bitten, I started to listen in their conversation.
"The CDC is our best choice and Jim's only chance" Rich said
"You go looking for Aspirin do what you need to do that's when you have some balls and take care of this problem" Darly said while walking towards Jim rising the pickaxe
"Hey, Hey, HEY" Rick screamed while aiming his revolver to the back of Daryl's head
Just then, Carl, who was standing to my right, reached out to grab my hand but stopped halfway. I noticed and brought my hand over to meet his.
"We don't kill the living" Rick spoke, his revolver aimed steadily at Darly's head.
"It's funny coming from a man who just put a gun to my" Daryl said looking at Rick
