As the doors opened a man walks out with a M16 pointed at us.
"Anybody infected?" He asked
"No" Rick said
"Come on then before they close again" He said then turning around to walk back in
We hurriedly followed the man in silence. Passing through what seemed to be the lobby, we arrived at an elevator. The ascent was quiet, and my nerves began to fray, but then Carl's hand found mine. His grip steadied me, and our fingers intertwined. I gazed up at the man, pondering his identity.
"Doctors always go around packing heat like that?" Daryl asked causing all of us to look at his gun.
"Well, there were plenty left lying around I familiarize myself" The man said, who I now know is a doctor "but you look harmless enough" as he looked down at me and carl. "Except you two"
Carl looked up at him and smiled while I squeezed Carl hand tight. " I have to keep my eye on you two" The doctor said then turning to face the doors.
When the doors open the doctor took a right turn and everyone followed. As we are following him down a hallway. Carl let's go of my hand and walks up with his mom then I looked at my parents and walked over to them to walk with them.
"Are we underground?" Carol asked out of no where
"You claustrophic?" The doctor asked while turning slightly to face Carol.
"A little" She respond
"Try not to think about it" He said then turning back around to walk straight.
After taking a few more steps the doctor yells "Vi, bring up the lights in the big room"
All of sudden the lights turn flash on reveling this dark grey ramp leading to a platform with 13 white computers with chairs. The doctor stopped walking which caused the rest of us to stop behind him then start to look around. The doctor beings to walk forward again.
"Welcome to zone5" he said as everyone begun to follow him again but still looking around.
"Where is everybody? Rick asked, " The other doctors, the staff?" while walking on the platform
"I'm it" The doctor asked while turning around to face us "It's just me here"
When he finished speaking, everyone stopped walking and looked at him with confusion. I wondered to myself, who had turned on the lights at that moment.
"What about the person you were speaking with?" Lori asked
"Yeah who turn on the lights?" I asked right after her "Vi?"
"Vi say hello to our guests" The doctor said loudly, everyone continued to look at him, still confused. "Tell them welcome"
"Hello guests welcome" a voice rang out loudly
"I'm all that's left" The doctor said "I'm sorry"
Silence prevailed as everyone just stared at each other and surveyed the surroundings. The doctor turned and walked away, with us following closely behind. He guided us into a room, and upon entering, I noticed a tray on the front desk, which held several tubes and a pair of gloves.
Andrea was the first to sit before the doctor, who began donning his gloves as the rest of use sat in the chairs. He took hold of Andrea's arm and commenced drawing her blood. I glanced at my parents, who were observing the man; then they exchanged looks with each other, and finally, they turned to me and smiled.
